'New' Victorian Karting Series In 2013

  29 November 2012

A 'new' series for Victorian karters will launch next year, and 13 of the 14 classes will have a brand new chassis up for grabs as a random prize. Replacing the All Stars Series, the Victorian Karting Series (VKS) will run over four rounds from February to June.

  • Rnd 1 - Geelong (February 16/17)
  • Rnd 2 - ELKC/Pucka (March 2/3)
  • Rnd 3 - Oakleigh (May 11/12)
  • Rnd 4 - GKCV/Todd Rd (June 1/2)

Supp Regs for the opening round can be found on the KartSportNews Race Calendar page.

The main prize for every class (with the exception of Leopard Light) will be a brand new Arrow X2 kart (or the equivalent latest Arrow) suitable for that class. These will be given away by random draw with anyone who has raced in the class at all four rounds eligible.

"All they have to do to be in it, is just turn up" Domenic Albanese informed KartSportNews.

"There are 14 classes on offer, so 13 new karts will be handed out. Leopard Light will be different in that someone will get a new X30 engine, random drawn and supplied by Remo."

Each series class winner will also receive $1000 worth of tyres of their choice (from a list to be supplied by the organisers).

"That's about $70,000 worth of prizes to start with, and then there will also be further random prizes to be announced at a later date.  It will be about $90,000 total" Albanese added.

The events will be two day, with the Saturday practice from 9 am to 1pm, then two heats, pre-final and final. The race format for round 1 is a 13 lap heat on Saturday afternoon, then another 13 lap heat on Sunday morning. This will be followed by a 16 lap pre-final and 20 lap final (final only counts).

The entry fee remains as per the old All Star series at $95.

An added feature will be a "true Open Class as per AKA rule book - any catergory, any time from the AKA manual."

Entries will only be taken until grid capacity is filled, and the each class must have a minimum of 8 entrants at each round to validate the main prize giveaways.
