Lithgow's 50 Year Celebration

  29 November 2012

an open letter

The kart track located on Oakey Forest Road, Marrangaroo is the only site in NSW in its original location and has operated continuously for 50 years.  Over these years, several State and National events have been held at the venue and has had the privilege of having the World Karting Champion commencing his motorsport career at the Lithgow City Kart Raceway.

On February 16 1963, the Lithgow and District Go Kart Club opened the track for racing.  Fifty years later on the same day (16 February), the current owners of the site, Combined Districts Kart Club, will be holding a celebration of that historic event by hosting a race meeting, “The Carnival of Karting”.

As part of the “Carnival of Karting”, Combined Districts Kart Club, in cooperation with Karting NSW, are planning to showcase karting by incorporating all the various types of karting which are held on Sprint Kart tracks.

The overall plan is to incorporate into the program a reunion of the founding and past members of the original club and the life members of the current club.  This will include not only a round of the club championship, but also an event for Endurance Karts and on track demonstrations of Vintage and Historic karts.  There will also be static displays of Endurance, Historic and Speedway Karts.

In addition, the club is planning a BIG family barbeque and a social on the Saturday night where all sections of the karting fraternity can celebrate the event.  We would like to extend an invitation to your club to be part of the celebration.

Should you have any questions regarding the event, please direct them to the Club’s Event Coordinator Russell Grimson (02) 4722 6583 or the Club President Paul Giuntini 0403 322 685.

We look forward to your support.

Yours sincerely
Russell Grimson
