The National Karting Council (NKC) of the Australian Karting Association (AKA) met in Adelaide over the weekend.

In the Group 1 category, a total of eight products were presented by tenderers for testing, a total of three manufacturers presented products for testing for Group 2 while seven products were presented for testing in the Group 3 category.

“This year’s tender was probably one of the most competitive that we’ve had,” said National President Craig Denton.

“The NKC spent a number of hours deliberating about the best product in each of the groups and in the end it was a very hard decision for everyone involved.  On behalf of the NKC I’d like to thank the members of the karting industry who presented tyres as a part of the tender process and congratulate the successful tenderers.”

Following a presentation by the National and Clubman future engine committee, the NKC voted unanimously to continue to move forward with the project.

A cost comparison between the engines and spare parts was presented and following the recommendations of the committee, it was decided to test an engine from both the IAME and Maxter companies.

The testing process will begin throughout 2013 in consultation with the manufacturers of both engines.  During this process, the committee will develop the best technique for the engine to transfer between the Clubman and National categories while using the same engine. This will allow time for the new Board to be involved with the process going forward.

With the implementation of the Group 1 tyre for the TaG category, there will be a national approach towards the category.  As a result, the TaG Light and Heavy will be contested as a support category for the 2013 CIK Stars of Karting Series.  The opening four rounds will be a state championship in the respective state with the final round to have a ‘Shootout’ event.

Hender Consulting conducted a presentation to the NKC in regards to their recommendations for the inaugural Board of Directors for the Association.  The recommended applicants will be contacted by Hender personnel over the coming days before being put to an election on January 17.

The full minutes from the conference will be made available shortly.
