Some news and pics from around the traps...

  • After a break from karting over summer, Sean Larkin did not expect to find a 1.4m brown snake curled up in his Tony Kart. The reptile had taken residence in the kart which had been sitting on the shed floor - and gave him a decent fright when he pulled back the cover! "All part of living in the country, especially where there are plenty of browns and tiger snakes" Sean's dad, Simon, informed KartSportNews. "It's not the first time they've been spotted in and around the shed."

Nicknamed 'The Professor' by his Grade 2 teacher last year, Sean claimed his first Cadet Club Championship at ELKC in his first full year of racing. He enjoyed some good results at state level towards the end of 2012 in a year spent practicing after fracturing his leg 12 months ago. Sean is happy that all is starting to come together ahead of this Friday night's Junior Top Guns at Oakleigh and is looking forward to a busy year.

  • Speaking of Junior Top Guns, entry closes this WEDNESDAY and no late entries can be accepted. If you were planning on racing Junior National Light, you're already too late to enter - that class is already full!

  • Ever wondered what karters do to get their speed fix on holidays? Oakleigh members Jordan Holowell and Luke Guillou take to the water on a 260HP Seadoo Jetski in Echuca. The video in the link is of Jordan driving with Luke on the back. They reach 110 kph! Link HERE.

  • Supp Regs for the CIK Stars of Karting Series - both for the full series and regulations specific to round 1 - are now online. They're on the Race Calendar page, with further detail on the AKA site HERE. Entries are now officially OPEN!

  • Interesting artcle on karting1.co.uk about engine manufacturers dropping KF and concentrating on their own more profitable one-make series, plus alternative engines for the future, specifically IAME's Sudam 125cc engine used in South America (which they describe as like 'an X30 without the TaGness'! • Ferrari's development driver - and Force India's reserve - Jules Bianchi, won Felipe Massa’s annual charity kart race in Brazil on the weekend. The Frenchman won the first race and scored the most points over the two-round event. Second place in the final standings went to race two winner Felipe Nasr with Lucas Di Grassi third. A report and photos HERE.

Above & Below: Fernando Alonso tweeted these images of kart preparation for the Massa charity race. Underneath the colourful lift-off bodywork is a standard kart. For this meeting they were all identical ART GP chassis. Alonso didnt have a particularly successful time, retiring from Race One with a broken throttle, then taking 18th in Race Two. pics - Alonso/Twitter
