Hot Opening For Cooloola Club Championships

Cooloola Kart Club (Gympie Qld) opened its 2013 Club Championship year on the 13th January with temperatures in the very high 30’s and the Junior Rotax Max category as the main feature event.
This class carried the same distances as the Pro Tour round scheduled for the 13/14 July and would serve to give the Queensland youngsters an unprecedented opportunity to prepare kart set, test their stamina for the longer race distances and give much needed competition. Timed qualifying, 3 heats of 14 laps a pre final of 20, and a final of 26 laps around the 900 meter circuit certainly provided all those conditions.
In addition to the feature event, which carried a sponsored “draw out the hat” for a weekend at “Overland’s on Moffat” (a beach retreat on the beautiful Moffat beach on the Sunshine Coast of Qld, valued at $600), the club supported this donation by Jason Overland with a further draw of a set of Mojo tyres for this class.

The normal club championship classes were on the schedule and of particular interest was the TAG125 category who were using the new 2013 compulsory Dunlop’s SL6 tyre for that class . Reports from competitors were that performance was slightly better than the previous tyre (MG Red) and tyre wear similar.
The hot conditions continued throughout the day and the feature event heats were a close tussle between Zane Goddard, Russell Whittaker & Daniel Milne. Goddard had the best of qualifying and all the heats and pre final only to be pipped by Whittaker who had the perfect set up for the reduced (20) lap final (due to the heat) with a winning margin of just under 2 seconds.
The Overland’s on Moffat prize, drawn on the grid just prior to the final, was gratefully accepted by Blake Brooks, and the set of Mojo tyres picked up by Zane Goddard.
The Cooloola club next event will be on the 10th February featuring the Senior National category as its feature event with additional laps. All further information is available at the club website http://www.cckc.org.au.
