Battle Lines Drawn For Brian Farley Memorial

Over the past five years, the Brian Farley Memorial has developed into one of the biggest events on the Australian karting calendar and with less than two weeks until the 2013 event (February 2/3), hosted by the North Shore Kart Club at Eastern Creek, the countdown is certainly on.

Brian Farley worked tirelessly for karting over a period of many years and passed away suddenly a few years ago. The Brian Farley Memorial meeting is to celebrate Brian’s life and contribution to karting.

Competitors in the Clubman category will be not only vying for the $2,000 prizemoney but the prestige of having their name etched on the Brian Farley perpetual trophy. Former winners of the event include multiple-time Australian Champions Troy Hunt and Jason Hryniuk along with fellow Sydneysider Daniel Baker and son of former V8 Supercar driver Macauley Jones.

With the feature category run as a combined weight, the Brian Farley Memorial brings together the best Clubman Light and Heavy drivers, however, Jones remains as the only ‘Light’ driver to have won the prestigious title.

For the first time in the history of the event, the 2013 race will also be contested in a clockwise (reverse) direction on the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway, something that will be sure to throw a spanner in the works.

“The Brian Farley has continued to build into one of the most prestigious events to win in Australian karting with many of the best Clubman drivers from all across Australia wanting to claim the victory,” said North Shore Kart Club President Steve Parsons.

“It continues to attract the best drivers from various parts of the country, already this year we have got four current or former national champions entered and we’d expect a couple more over the next week or so to confirm.

“It is always interesting to see the young rising stars like Pierce Lehane and Jaie Robson take on the experienced drivers such as of Nick Agland, Jason Hryniuk, Brett Robinson, Jason Burns and Kris Walton.

“With the event being contested in the reverse direction to what we normally race in, it is going to be very interesting as it will be like a brand new layout to everyone.”

Along with the feature class of the Clubman class, there will also be seven other categories being contested across the weekend - Junior National Pro, Senior National Pro, Sportsman 125 Pro, Tag Restricted Light, Tag Restricted Heavy, Cadets and Rookies. Qualifying and heat races will be contested on Saturday with the pre-finals and finals held on Sunday.

Pre-entries close on Friday February 1st, with late entries (extra fees applicable) accepted until 7:30am on Saturday February 2nd.
