F1 Star At Tiger's Fun Day

from Sean Phillips 20 January 2015

It only seems like yesterday the Tiger Kart Club ended the racing year with the Have-a-Go race meeting and already the season has kicked off again with the Fun Day at our Cockburn Track.

This event is a great way to start the season, particularly for our new karters who get to ease their way into racing with the 3 heat format and no official places or club points awarded to keep things low key.

This year’s Fun Day had a little surprise for those that made the effort to come and race when our resident Red Bull F1 superstar Daniel Ricciardo turned up to meet and greet our members.

It was great to see Daniel back at the club where he started his motorsport career and for him to come and spend some of his very limited private time with us.

He stayed until everyone had a chance to say hello and get anything and everything signed from helmets and memorabilia through to steering wheels and nose cones - what a superstar and awesome bloke he really is..

Bruno Cattalini from Cockburn Karts also had a huge Ricciardo kart display to top it all off, what a way to start 2015 at the Tiger Kart Club!

The day was also the first time we got to see the new KA 100 and Mini Rok engines running in competition and what an awesome bit of kit these new engines are. No wonder everyone is jumping on board with them, they are such a step forward from the old Yamaha and Comer engines and once the full transition has taken place a huge step in the right direction for karting in Australia.

The meeting started a little behind schedule due mostly to the new class formats we have introduced this year accommodating the new engines. The end result though was a great days racing and starting a little later than planned meant that we missed the 40c temps it got to in the early afternoon anyway.

Everyone went home in one piece and had a great time so they can now get prepared for the first of the club day points events in February and get into the racing season in earnest.

Big thanks goes to our hard working committee who staffed and ran the event and also a special mention to John Summerfield who assisted with organizing for Daniel to come to the track and visit us, thanks John and a huge thanks again to Daniel for making the time to come and see us.

See you all again at the February club day under lights at the Wanneroo track, it should be another epic days racing at the Tiger Kart Club.
