NSW Superkart Season Kicks Off

press release 27 January 2015

The NSW Superkart Club kicked off its racing year on Sunday January 25 as part of the MRA (Motor Racing Australia) round at Wakefield Park. Thankfully we didn’t have to get wet after the rain on Saturday, and it was clear skies all day.

A range of karts were on hand from George Koutros making a return to Superkarts in his 250 International after a few seasons off with TV commitments, to 250 National, 125 Gearbox, 125 Stock Honda and Rotax Max.

The racing was fast and furious with Aaron Cogger setting the fastest time of the day of a 60.2 sec lap in his 250 National.

Points are accumulated over 4 races on the day, and George Koutros took 1st place in 250 International. Aaron Cogger took 1st in 250 National from John Pellicano and John Dunn. 125 Gearbox saw Mark Robin take 1st place from Steven Capenecas. Stock Honda was taken out by Graeme Taplin in front of Adam Stewart. Rotax Light 1st place went to Mark Vickers from Wayne Horswell and Ryan Taplin. Rotax Heavy was taken out by Greg Tinsley, Alan Dodge and Josh Hayman took 2nd and 3rd.

In what was a very successful day, three new members joined the NSW Superkart club, two going to Rotax Max and one to 125GB. These guys were blown away after watching the close racing, but with no touching, and also at how long a set of tyres last on a Superkart, the Rotax Maxes getting 4 or so meetings out of 1 set!

Being the debut of wings on Rotax Max karts at AASA events in NSW, 4 wings were present on the day, the karts looked a treat, and a further 1 nose cone and 3 wings were sold on the day.

The NSW Superkart Club holds 9 events a year between Wakefield Park and Sydney Motorsport Park. If anyone is interested in racing on long circuits, you can contact us at www.superkartsnsw.com
