Karting News Briefs

  24 March 2015

Anything karting from anywhere...

  • In New Zealand, changes to rules are proposed by the Clubs or the Executive and considered by a Rules Sub Committee. They're then passed back to all Clubs for submission. The Sub Committee then considers any official submissions and make recommendations to the Executive. The Executive consider these and if passed they are then adopted as a new rule. The latest raft of proposed changes, plus the schedule of submissions for the process, can be viewed on the Kartsport New Zealand website HERE.

  • Karting was on show at the AGP once again with a trio of entry level karts (Cadet, KA100 and TaG-R) attracting lots of attention across the 4 days. A gallery of photos is on Karting Australia's facebook HERE.

  • "Terry Fullerton: 7 ways I’d improve Karting". The international karting legend was interviewed by the UK Karting magazine recently. The former world champ is still heavily involved in the industry and suggests a number of things to improve the sport. Read the words of wisdom in the article HERE.

  • NZ Vintage Kart Grand Prix video. • Scott McLaughlin gave this KZ2 some jandal while visiting the Launceston kart track recently. With the V8 circus making its way to the Apple Isle this week, the club used the media interest to help promote the sport and the annual McDonald's Young Guns event on April 19 (which is also the 4th round of the Tasmanian Statewide Series). McLaughlin took time out to meet LKC junior members, sign autographs and pose for photos. The Volvo driver finished 3rd (in Junior Clubman) at the 2008 Nationals at the venue and has fond memories of racing in Tassie, winning the State Title in 2006 and 2009. Media coverage of Scott's visit is on the V8Supercars website HERE and The Examiner HERE (which also includes video). The promotion was also televised on the Southern Cross and WIN TV news networks. We hear the Jandal Man enjoyed driving the kart so much he was still on track well after the media had departed...

  • Zanardi Corse Australia showing off their new-look van, with "Zanardi1" rego and photo sticker across the back. Motorsists following this down the highway should have no question about its content!

  • AutoAction reports there are plans for a club-level motorsport complex, which will include a kart track, near Wyong on NSW’s central coast. The project’s co-founder, Brad Wilson, says the facility is about boosting grassroots motorsport, not high-end one-off V8 Supercar events. "We want to create a facility that operates year round, providing a destination for club level and grassroots motorsport” he said. Read more HERE.

  • Supp Regs for the first round of the 2015 Queensland State Championships at Emerald on April 17-19 are now online. Vist the Race Calendar page (Supp Regs for the VIC, NSW & SA rounds on the same weekend are also there).

  • "Today we tore each other up. Tonight they all stop and help. True Karters." Those are the worlds of William Yarwood and perfectly reflect the true quality of the karting family. The Project X Racing van had a major blow-out on the way home from Dubbo Pro Tour. The shredded tyre took out the brake lines and resulted in a wild ride for the occupants as the van and trailer slewed off the road. Yarwood piled praise on all the karters who stopped to render assistance. "Thanks heaps to all those that stopped." Unfortunately, the blow out did more damage than first thought as the trailer later broke a wheel bearing resulting in a lost wheel!

Her return to Tasmania will see the Ford Coupe driver team up with Tassies Fastest Ladies - a group of Tasmanian kart racers who are looking forward to working with Ruthie and gaining experience at a national event. Ruthie admires the girls for their commitment to racing as well as their dedication to community programs, such as increasing breast cancer awareness.

  • Victorian contingent of the Go Kart Legends 80s-90s group on Facebook ran a Legends round at LeMans Hire Karts in Melbourne last weekend. Former Oakleigh member Mark Vukusic won the final ahead of ex-tuner Neil McAuley with GKCV's Darren Camilleri third. A WA Legends round is scheduled at Wanneroo on May 2 while in SA a Battle of the Legends is set for May 30 at Ultra Fast Karts, Richmond. So, when is a Battle of the Legends "Nationals" going to be held? The Easter long weekend is free these days...

Well, the group's publicist informs us that they've now raised over $20,000 for Huntingtons Queensland. “On behalf of more than 300 families living with Huntington’s disease in Queensland, I’d like to thank Cam Wilson, his partner Tracey and their young family and the team at Slideways Go Karting for this huge and very successful record attempt,” Huntingtons Queensland Executive Officer Bernard Wilson said.

Above: Cam Wilson, Dan Tuite, Tim Harris, Danial Goddard, Chris Hinton and Nathan Roach drove 774km (4,868 laps) to set the record, exceeding the target by more than 50kms in the final hour.
