Karting News Briefs

  7 May 2015

  • Regan Payne has been reinstated as the winner of Rotax Heavy at the opening round of the 2015 Rotax Pro Tour. Payne was originally excluded from the meeting and suspended for a period of one month on a technical issue. Karting Australia has now advised an inquiry found there was ambiguous wording in the Technical Specification document in regards to the measurement of the combustion chamber for the engine.  The Technical Document for this engine has subsequently been updated to remove this ambiguity (updates on the KA site HERE). "Mr Payne will now be recognised as the winner of the event and receive the first place trophy. The Rotax Rankings will be adjusted accordingly" KA stated.

  • Live timing has commenced for the opening round of the European KF and KFJ Championship in Portugal this weekend. Free practice has started and the live timing will operate for all track sessions right through to the finals late Sunday night (Australian time). The final day will also feature a video stream. Live timing link HERE.

  • A new racing facility is set to be built in South-East Queensland. Auto Action reports that John and Kathy Kelly (the team behind Brisbane’s Archerfield Raceway) have joined with some local business people to built the complex, which will include a speedway, drag strip, kart track and a host of other features. It will be located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Read more about it on the AA site HERE.

  • Terry Fullerton has, unsurprisingly, been rated number 1 in the UK's Karting Magazine "The Best 10 British Karters Ever" ranking. Superkarter Martin Hines was ranked number two ahead of Mike Wilson. F1 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button both made the list. Check out where they finished, plus the full article with each driver's back story and best of the various decades, HERE.
