ROTAX MAX Euro Challenge Returns to Germany

press release 15 July 2015

The ROTAX MAX Euro Challenge, promoted by RGMMC, is going to give its Comeback in Germany. After 2012 the most unique European ROTAX series finally returns to Wackersdorf. From 20th to 26th of July 2015 the halftime race of the season will be held in the Prokart Raceland, which not only provides most modern facilities but a demanding and diversified track with a length of 1.222 metres.

Over 140 drivers entered the event, representing not less than 34 nations from all around the world in the three categories of juniors, seniors and DD2. Germany as the hosting country counts the most participants by almost 20 entries. Although the local heroes may have an experiential advantage on home soil, they will have to rival the international elite. Since the stop in Southern Germany will herald the final spurt of the season, the focus is set on the top candidates for the 2015 championship crowns.

The junior category sees Axel Charpentier (Strawberry Racing) in the top position of the championship. The Frenchman who races on a UK licence leads by only two points ahead of nine British drivers! Thereof his teammate Kiern Jewiss (Strawberry Racing) is the direct chaser in second place. Both youngsters are still waiting for their first season win, which they aim to remedy at Wackersdorf. But they will have to deal with Dean MacDonald (Aim Motorsport), who recently took the double victory at Castelletto (ITA) and opening round winner Jack McCarthy (Strawberry Racing). They follow in third and fourth position of the table and are ready to grab for the lead.

Some exciting competition is expected for the senior class: Australia's Pierce Lehane (Strawberry Racing) has been the pacemaker at the beginning of the year but he struggled at the last round in Italy and only managed to defend the championship lead closely. So the British drivers Edward Brand (CRG SPA) and Sam Marsh (Dan Holland Racing) were able to catch up. By consistent performances they established themselves in second and third spot of the table. But since the Italian round there is another name to be mentioned: Rinus van Kamlthout (Team TKP), currently only sixth in the championship, took the prefinal win and a second place in the final which boosted the Dutchman into the circle of favourites for the championship crown.

When it comes to the DD2 category Ferenc Kancsar (BirelART/KMS) is the man to be beaten. By constant top results the man from Hungary maintained the leading position with a comfortable gap of 26 points. Yet that is nothing to rest on, especially since Italy's Paolo De Conto (CRG SPA) took the double win at Castelletto. The runner-up will surely increase the pressure in Wackersdorf again. Seeking for compensation is Frenchman Anthony Abbasse (Sodikart). The opening round winner was in good shape at Italy, but was excluded from the final race. That made him lose ground in the championship table. For the upcoming races he has to cut his losses. In Wackersdorf there is another name in the spotlight: Germany's Marcel Schirmer (RS Competition) is third in the championship, showing his best Euro season thus far. On home soil he finally aims to conquer his first podium position in the Euro Challenge. As for the DD2 Masters classification Russia's Igor Mukhin (CRG SPA) is leading the pack. He is ready to defend his position against his direct chasers Tamsin Germain (DG Racing) from the UK and Kawase Tomokazu (Uniq Racing Team) from Japan.

Summing up the ROTAX MAX Euro Challenge is ready for the second halftime with a thrilling final spurt to kick off at Wackersdorf. Everybody is invited to join the race action, as live TV coverage will start on Friday and continue throughout the weekend.
