Rich Gold Cup Tomorrow

KART STARS CHASING GOLD THIS WEEKEND!!!

Tomorrow (August 9) the Angas Go Kart Club at Strathalbyn will host one of the biggest events on the South Australian Dirt Kart calendar - the 6th Annual Gold Cup.

In previous years the event has been run as a 100cc Open class feature but this season the Gold Cup will be run utilising a 140kg weight rule for KT powered karts, a change that has proven to be popular as a field of 50 drivers has been attracted for the OR Transport / One Temp supported event.

When you arrive into Strath you get the feeling a lot of history has taken part on the dirt your about to drive on, wondering as you get pushed out that gate for the first time what will become of your day, but as soon as the roar of that engine fires in your right ear, all that is forgotten and your ready to take on Australia's best no matter what the outcome.

The nomination list includes all three previous race Champions with Lisa Walker and Mark Burford chasing their third title while last year’s winner Dave Carruthers will be hoping to continue the tradition of event crowning a back to back Champion.

But they will not have it all their own way as the field is among the best field ever assembled for a single day race meeting with the likes of Daniel Wenske, Brad Connor, Brad Hammond, Joseph Caruso, Rhys Hackett, Brad Dalwood, Josh Ryan, Josh Bull, Lachy McDonough and Wade Ingerson all in the line-up.

The format for the Gold Cup is also quite unique as it will utilise a World Series Sprintcars style format with hot laps, time trials, two rounds of heats (10 laps) with fastest drivers coming from the back of the field. The top 8 in points will contest a Top 8 Shootout (5 lap dash) to finalise the first four starting rows for the winner takes all 20 lap A-main. The final spots in the A-main will be made up of the transferees from the 8 lap B-Main. A 6 lap C-Main will also be run.

Imagine at the end of 20 laps how you'd feel taking that checker flag, the feeling of doing your parade lap, the feeling when you stop that peers, collegues and family will be there to greet you and celebrate that accomplishment that only you can say to your self at the end of the day, I gave it my all.

Gates into the venue open at 7 am with scrutineering beginning at 7:45 am and with on track action beginning at 10am. The Angas Go- Kart Club is located at Nine Mile Road, Strathalbyn, SA, 5255. Admission is $3 for Adults with Children Under 14 Free.
