AiM's MyChron 5 Just Around The Corner

World release of AiM's new MyChron 5 dash is due in the next couple of weeks. KartSportNews got to have a quick look at the new device at the Australian Kart Championship round in Geelong a week ago.

The Italian company first released a personal lap timer for karts around 20 years ago. This 5th generation version opens up some amazing new possibilities.

When switched on, MyChron 5 will communicate with satellites and determine where in the world it is and automatically load the circuit's parameters into the unit ready for the first track session.

These details are already pre-configured and built into the unit. This, combined with the integrated GPS, means there are no further sensors or work required to automatically get lap times, predictive lap time and sector splits. The GPS data (10 samples per second) is recorded with all the other data for performance analysis.

Each unit has a unique identifier allowing AiM to monitier where every single Mycron 5 unit is - a great anti-theft security measure!

AiM's Ron Burns (Australian distributor - aimsportsystems.com.au ) said the new unit includes a built-in accelerometer that will pick up the steering wheel angle and compare this with the direction of travel to determine if the chassis has understeer or oversteer - all without any extra sensors or wires running around the kart.
