No Rear Impact Protection Needed

  13 January 2016

Karting Australia has advised its race meeting officials to apply the provisions of the “Minor Ineligibility” rule if a kart is presented at a race meeting without a CIK-FIA homologated rear impact protection device fitted.

This means that karters who thought they could not race this weekend because they could not source a plastic bar, can now go ahead and race!

A number of KA race meetings are scheduled for this weekend, and all have poor entry numbers. Clubs will be hoping this decision will provide a boost.

KA advise this is just a short term relaxing of the rules while there is shortage of supply, and that karts without the plastic bumper will still need to be fitted with the standard steel rear bars.

This Technical Rule Procedure was pushed out via social media today and is effective immediately.

The full PDF on the Karting Australia website can be read by clicking HERE.

KA also published a Technical Rule Interpretation document "Unless The Rules Say That You Can Then You Cannot".

It's primarily directed at the new IAME, ROK and Vortex engines where they are to be raced as manufactured and not modified (ie, blueprinted) to meet manufacturers' tolerances. Read the PDF on that HERE.
