catch-up on all things kart racing...

  • The Warrnambool Kart Club has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for track resealing works. "The future of our sport in Warrnambool now depends on the track being resurfaced" the club posted. "We have managed to raise a large sum of money through the generousity of local businesses and organisations, but the last corner needs help from our friends and fellow motorsport lovers." The club is aiming to reseal the circuit by the end of March. See more or make a donation HERE.

  • A matter of perspective? Ahmen to that:

  • Kart Passion Episode 4 has English commentary provided by Australian Ian Salvestin. This edition focuses on the BirelART company, plus Douglas Wheels where another Australian, Ben Horstman, heads up the European division:

  • A friend once said to me "I'd rather my kid be involved in a sport and break their arm, than always be safely wrapped in cotton wool. It's easier to fix a broken bone than it is to fix a broken mind." Another friend has her kids participating in sport so they learn not so much the physical skill of the sport, but to experience and thus learn from the highs of victory and the lows of defeat, (she has a belief that people who don't learn to deal with rejection and loss are more prone to mental health issues - I'm not qualified to opinion on that, but it I guess it's possible??) Anyway, Peter Zambos of Kartpulse has been pondering such issues and whether he'll expose his offspring to karting. Read the post HERE on Kartpulse.

  • Finland will be using an engine reclaiming rule in the National IAME X30 series this year. While the X30 is known for its equalness in performance out of the box, drivers in the Finnish series must agree to a rule that their engine is buyable after the finals at each round. The fixed price is rumoured to be around 2200Euro (AUS $3,500) for the base engine (no carb or pipe). More HERE.

  • A KA addendum has been issued for the opening round of the Victorian Kart Championship, concerning the format of racing at the event. Click HERE to read it.

  • The CRG Group has launched a new branch - CRG Spain. "CRG Spain will join CRG Nordam and CRG Great Britain to provide customers with an easier and more direct access to CRG products" the Italian company said in a statement. CRG Spain is housed at the Kart Center of Campillos and is directed by Francisco Duran. The first Teams and Dealers of CRG Spain are Faluga Racing Team, DM Motorsport and Scuderia Rotax.

  • South Australia's Ian Williams Tuning was out promoting Superkarting and Sprint Karting the other week. The IWT crew set up at the Waugh in the West cricket match on the St Clair Oval.

  • Vale: George Mulready. One of TEKA's founding and life members, Mr George Mulready, has passed away. "George was a quiet man and a friend to many within the TEKA family" TEKA President Steve Cameron said. "The spirit of TEKA trophy that we award most years was brought about by the selfless work his team (Allied and Grey Ghost racing) did promoting TEKA. In recent years, even though he was not racing with us, he would call to see how things were going. I know I can speak on behalf of the members amongst us that knew George in saying he was a great man and without his passion for our sport we would not be here today. Rest in peace my friend and we know you will be looking down on us. I would ask all members at Bega wear a black arm band and we conduct a minute silence as a mark of respect to a great TEKA mate." RIP George.

  • Vic Country series lap time spread from Round 1 at Covden. The more concentrated the bubbles, the more equal the class lap times are.

  • Karters who pre-nominate for any of the remaining monthly club race meetings at Mackay will receive an entry into a random draw for a set of tyres (or product to the value) for their chosen class! The offer excludes the Sugar City & Whitsunday Titles and has been made possible through the support fo Mky Karting Supplies, TG Motorsport and R&T Pumps. If you're lucky enough to win a set of tyres twice, you will no longer be eligible for the remaining draws.

  • Speaking of tyres, Australian Kart Racers' Alliance tell us they've done a deal with DPE for 1000 sets of MG AZ Red tyres for their upcoming Yamaha Easter Nationals at Orange, plus future individual State Championship events (which have yet to be officially announced). "It was paramount that a continuous, reliable supply of tyres was available and the choice of MG reds with DPE was the best option" AKRA's Troy Boldy said. The Clubman 'Yamaha Only' and TaG Restricted classes will run the MG Red and will be offered to all drivers for $215 a set.

  • Industry: Long time Melbourne-based kart enthusiast John Reynolds will now be supplying karters with spare parts, accessories and trackside services at Oakleigh's clubdays and select open meetings. "John’s Trackside Spares" is also an agent for Ritter Race Engines. Make a purchase and you'll be entered in the February clubday lucky draw of a set of slick race tyres - 0401 161 128.

  • Video of the first push start and race starts of the new-era OK and OK-J engines in Europe.
