Armstrong Fast But Loses Out In Final

press release 6 April 2016

Kiwi karter Marcus Armstrong again showed his world-class pace at the third round of this year's WSK Super Master Series heads at La Conca in southern Italy over the weekend. But the 15-year-old lost any chance of a top ten round finish with an early dnf (did into finish) in the KZ class Final.

The Christchurch ace, who drives for the works Tony Kart team, set the third fastest lap time in each free practice session and after setting the sixth quickest time in his qualifying group, qualified 12th overall for the heats.

He then finished fifth in his first heat and ninth in his second to be tenth (out of 41) heading into the Pre-Finals.

By finishing eighth in his Pre-Final Armstrong started the Final from P15 in the grid but only made it to the seventh lap before his race was over.

The KZ Final was won by Armstrong's experienced teammate, Italian former world champion Marco Ardigo, from pole sitter Jordan Lennox-Lamb and fellow Brit Ben Hanley.

The young Kiwi now has to wait until the middle of May for the final round of the WSK Super Master Series at Adria in Italy's north-east.

The four-round WSK series attracts all the top professional teams in Europe and gives drivers like Armstrong and Tony Kart team leader, three-time World Champion Marco Ardigo, a chance to get their eye in for the three-round CIK-FIA European Championships and single round CIK-FIA World KZ Championship meeting later in the year.
