Eastern Creek Preston Hire 550 - A race of speed and strategy!

Eastern Creek brings out the speed in many karts. Teams need to combine this with the perfect strategy to win!

Welcome back CJR #69, TJD Racing #26, Benders #22, CDT #42, and Precision Motorsport #48

Great to see Team Atlas #27 joining us for the first time as a team, and Eltoro #94 returning after a baptism of fire their very first round in Coffs Harbor.

First the speed….Hellrazor #13 had it from the start, they carried it through qualifying taking pole and the race where they competed for top spot all day.

In practice Hellrazor #13 were closely followed by Kinetic #58 who may have unlocked the key to their speed, and Buildine #9 happy with 3rd as the flat fast nature of Eastern doesn’t always suit them, Ultimate Karting under 1/10th sec behind in 4th.

RPG #90 with a well known ring in manage to show B grade how its done with the fastest practice time, followed by CJR #69 on their return, and new comers Atlas #27 (with atleast one familiar face we’re sure).

Qualifying was interesting with only 10 mins to achieve a time without the ability to top up fuel before the start of the race.

Brad Lewis from Hellrazor no surprise takes pole followed by Kinetic, 3rd outright and 1st in B again no surprise CJR.

Let the race begin…If there was to be a theme for this round it would be the extensive use of the virtual safety kart, and without a hitch. It felt like such a long time since full course yellow was required, well Eastern Creek made up for it. With the fast nature of the track and close competition there were bound to be casualties.

The racing was intense throughout the whole 5-hours and 50 minutes with battles raging right through the order. A solid performance before mechanical dramas from Allyman #16 dropping to near last before driving back to 10th outright! Shame for Vantage #7 who suffered kart related issues early, and CJR #69 who were running in the top 5 most of the day before suffering a race ending issue only a few laps from the end. Other teams also had minor issues through the day but recovered well to circulate and cross the finish line.

After all was said and done regardless of a great chase coming from 2nd Ultimate Karting #15 pulled off the perfect combination of speed and strategy to take their maiden win over Hellrazor #13. In A grade Buildline #9 nursed their kart home to 3rd with a soft belly, the chassis breaking in the middle with an hour and a half to go.

A massive effort by RPG #90 who not only took out 1st place in B grade but finished 3rd overall! Madas #88 who raced with CJR #69 all day withstood the pressure finishing 2nd in B grade followed by Unifilter #33 and Preston Hire #18. A massive effort by the rookies (and dad) in TJD Racing #26 to bring it home in 4th in B and 8th outright!!

Thanks to Motorsport Australia for the great photos, and Preston Hire for their support!

The next Round in Orange is one of the most popular for a few reasons, and the Championship in both Grades is well and truly alive!! B grade in particular is the one to watch with 1 point separating RPG #90 and Unifilter #33, 10 points separating Preston Hire 3rd and Wild Racing 4th with Vantage only 1 more point adrift.

Next round is at Orange on 17-18th September.
