Australian Dirt Kart Nationals Cancelled

  1 October 2016

With delays due to weather, and more rain possibly arriving Sunday, AIDKA pulled the pin on their 2016 Australian Dirt Kart Nationals. Despite this, the Yorke Peninsula Dirt Kart Club ran a race meeting today for those who had traveled so far and still wanted a run, 186 of the original 400-odd entry taking to the track. The racing and after-party will continue tomorrow.

The Yorke Peninsula Dirt Kart Club posted this on Facebook:

"Two years of blood sweat and hard friggin work, all to be played the final card by Mother Nature! YPDKC titles committee and AIDKA unfortunately did their best to get the Australian Championships to happen today, but the once in a fifty year storm prevented this from happening.

True to the 'never take no for an answer', the Club ran a club race meeting instead, with over 170 of the 400 staying to race today which will be finishing off tomorrow before the rain gods possibly give us another dose!

Mateship with a common goal, pride and a drive to improve the infrastructure of the Club all for the good of everyone to race, saw too may hours to count and tens of thousands of dollars of hard earned funds in conjunction with generous local businesses and sponsors has seen something that will be enjoyed by many long after this committee retires.

Memories have been created that will also stay with us even longer. These memories are tough at present, very raw, but in time we will laugh and reminisce with the next generation.

Respect has been earned. True friendships have been made, friendship that will follow us where ever we travel throughout Australia. People will be talking about us for the right reasons.

So, on behalf of our Club, we thank everyone for their physical and emotional support... but this event isn't finished.

Racing will commence at 9:30 am tomorrow, an overstocked canteen with amazing workers will be on duty at 8 am. Excess food will be sold off throughout the day. If you would like to buy in bulk, pop in and speak to them.

To finish off, the closing ceremony celebration with pre-bought tickets will happen, and boy look out, I think a few will be letting the stress and the toll of the last few months out with the Australian karting family.

On behalf of our club, thank you again and with a well earned rest, Mother Nature will not beat us.... we will be hosting the Australian Championships at a date yet to be determined."
