Former Kartworks properietor Rod Franks sadly passed away prior to New Year after a multi-year battle with lung cancer. Rod assisted countless people get into karting from his Cardiff (Newcastle) based shop.
Current Kartworks owners, the Taylor family, posted this on social media earlier today:
On behalf of Lyn and Rod's families, it is with great sadness that we wish to let our Kartworks family know that Rod Franks passed away on Tuesday 27th December 2016.
He was a champion of the Karting industry and an outstanding bloke to all who knew him, not only that, he was also an incredible mentor and supporter of both Nathan and Scott as we took over the Kartworks.
His knowledge, wisdom, and many stories he told from his time in Karting are something that we will always cherish and sadly miss.
The funeral service for Rod will be held TOMORROW Thursday (5th January) beginning 12pm at Lake Macquarie Memorial Park Ryhope.
The Kartworks would like to send it's deepest thoughts and condolences to you Lyn and your extended families.
He is now with his Princess of Speed (Nicole) looking down on us all.
