Smokin' Joe Wins The Wagin 1000

press release 7 March 2017

A strong field of Dirt Karting 200 Opens turned up to the Great Southern Kart Club in Wagin, Western Australia, last weekend for the 4th running of Australia's Richest Dirt Kart race - the Wagin 1000.

Current WA & SA 200 Open champ Joe Chalmers from the GSKC club was strong from the outset.

Qualifying heats and a pole shuffle was in store for the drivers leading into the main event & after a strong hot lap session and a first heat win, Chalmers had a mechanical issue which hampered his run from the back of heat 2 into 2nd before loosing a plug lead.

Heat 3 was a stellar fight up the front with Adrian Haywood and Chalmers chopping and dicing for positions which caught Chalmers off guard and an unfortunate DNF. After the heats Chalmers just scrapped into the pole shuffle in 6th place and he won all 5 shuffles to place himself on pole for the final event.

This was one of his stronger runs of the night. Joe got off to a great start and was challenged by Haywood in the early stages until he then suffered some mechanical issues and Chalmers got away to a clear lead and took the flag for the win.

This event has grown stronger & stronger in its early years of development with some of the sports biggest names showing interest in attending.

The crowd and spectators were certainly treated to a great nights racing and the 2018 event looks to be even bigger again.
