Brilliant Start To 2013 For Port Macquarie

by Kurt McRae 17 February 2013

Port Macquarie Kart Racing Club has once again put on a show for spectators and competitors alike, with the sun shining and the conditions favouring grip, the entrants couldn’t have hoped for a better day to go racing last weekend. Despite the numbers, there was some very close racing throughout the day and rarely did one driver dominate the entire field.

CADETS
There was, as ever some fantastic displays of driving from these young sportspeople. The clean, but close racing that is shown from these kids is always a crowd pleaser.
1 – Zachary Burge, 2 – Samuel Johnson, 3 – Liam Jones

Rookies
The Rookies had some widespread competitiveness throughout their races. Though, the standout driver and the one that eventually came out on top was Zac Crichton, however this spot was closely contested by Billy Stanwix.

JUNIOR NATIONAL COMBINED
Unfortunately, we didn’t see the battles that are synonymous with these classes this weekend; however what we did see was two drivers go out on the track, make friends with one another and have a brilliant time, which is just as good to see. It is worth noting that Luke Collett finished in front of Jake Penfold, however I believe it was Jake’s first race meeting.

RESTRICTED TAG 125/CLUBMAN HEAVY
The largest field we had on the day, these guys had some fierce race action going on, and the podium positions were closely contested, but eventually Michael Heywood snagged first place, but only just. The mid pack was very close behind the front-runners and they also displayed some great passing manoeuvres and hair-raising moments.
1 – Michael Heywood, 2 – Brad Stone, 3 – Phillip Curran

RESTRICTED TAG 125/CLUBMAN LIGHT
Some more close racing and amazing driving, the lady and gentlemen of this class had a ball on and off the track as is consistent with all the drivers, there was some tight competition and eventually Paul Craddock prevailed, followed closely by David Austin.

OPEN PERFORMANCE/SPORTSMAN 125 LIGHT AND HEAVY
Saving the fastest till last, the guys that raced this class always put on a great show for the spectators, over 100 KP/H into turn one never goes unnoticed. Dennis Tyrrell being the only competitor in open performance, naturally won that class, as is the same for Sportsman 125 light with Andrew Mitchell coming first, and Sportsman 125 heavy and Winston Heywood coming in at number one.
