Revamped KartSportNews

  24 February 2013

Have you noticed the site now has a bit of a new look?

In the eight and a half year history of KartSportNews, this is only the second time it's had a makeover. I guess, like all things of true beauty, it (I hope!) doesn't need too much superficial work on appearance to be A Good Thing.

Anyway, the changes are fairly minimal, but hopefully make navigation a little easier and user-friendly. You'll notice all the links are now blue (rather than orange) and once you've visited a Daily News item, the link will turn grey so you know you've read it. Feel free to have a click around - you might discover content you never knew existed!

There are a number of pages that are still to be finished (this could take days... or months) but the regular almost-daily news updates will continue as before.

The new look coincides with a new KartSportNews sticker - and it looks great on a kart! A few freebies were handed out at the Geelong VKS round last weekend, and you can buy them in packs of 10 from the Merchandise page.

As usual, we'll try and cover as many race meetings as possible throughout the year. We've got some great contributors and photographers who submit reports and photos, but we can certainly do with more. If your club's race meetings are not covered on KartSportNews, it's simply because we havent found someone in your area to write a report - please help us rectify this.

Another change is the site's copyright policy. Rather than restricting people's use of original KartSportNews content (for example, if you grabbed one of our photos and published it on a public medium, we had a right to sue you for breach of copyright), we're now asking you to actually share it. But there's a catch...

Original works created by KartSportNews are now published under a Creative Commons 'Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives' licence. Basically, this means we allow you to republish content for non-commercial purposes provided that content is unaltered and full credit is given to its source. More information specific to this licence is on the Creative Commons website (please be aware, the copyright for some content on KartSportNews is owned by others and falls outside of this CC policy).

If you wish to use KartSportNews content for commercial purposes, just ask for permission.

Part of the reconfiguration is to accommodate further advertising spaces in the top banner area. Several organisations have requested a banner advert, but the rotating HomePage Banner position has been sold out for ages. The positions on the left and right of the top KartSportNews logo are now available as advertising spaces.

The Trade and Kart Shop Directory listings have also been upgraded to give advertisers better value and increased exposure for their products. These can be accessed via the top menu.

Organisations wishing to take a placement, or to adjust their current advertising plan, should make contact.

From what I've seen at the track, and from what a few others in the industry tell me, 2013 has started off strongly for karting. Let's hope that continues for the rest of the year and beyond.

All the best for your race season!
