Fujitsu 'Cool' Drivers Announced

Fujitsu General (Aust.) Pty Limited today announced the names of this year's Fujitsu 'Cool' karters. Six youngsters will become part of this year's Fujitsu supported youth development initiative for karting, with three new names joining the three standout drivers who have been retained from last year.

The program, which enters its third year in 2013, has been instrumental in creating a career development pathway for a number of aspiring, young racing drivers - with reigning Dunlop Series champion Scott McLaughlin being the initiative's first endorsee and official flag bearer. Debutante Porsche Carrera Cup driver Renee Gracie is also a graduate of the Fujitsu 'Cool' Driver Program, while international karting star Joey Mawson has also benefitted from a two-year association. Previous Fujitsu 'Cool' Drivers include: Cam Waters, Nick Foster, Shae Davies, Jack le Brocq, Garry Jacobson, Damon Strongman, Liam McLellan, Brody Appleby, Royce, Nott, Todd Hazelwood, Rhett Noonan and Macauley Jones.

In excess of 370 applications were received for the eight places (six karting, two open wheel) on offer this year. An announcement regarding the two open wheeler endorsees will be made early next week.

The 2013 Fujitsu 'Cool' Driver Program karting endorsees are (driver quotes included):

Joseph Burton-Harris - 15 (New South Wales) "It’s just great to be selected into the Fujitsu ‘Cool’ Driver Program. The Fujitsu name is well known in motorsport and to be part of this is going to make this year the biggest in my career so far. I’m looking forward to learning new areas in motorsport outside of the driving, and ones that will help assist me with my motor sport career."

Charlotte Poynting - 14 (New South Wales) "I am so happy and feel honoured to be given the opportunity to join the Fujitsu 'Cool' Driver Program. I am very excited and looking forward to the year ahead and doing something I am extremely passionate about. I've seen what Renee (Gracie) has done and I want to follow in her footsteps ... it's so exciting."

Cooper Murray - 11 (Victoria) "Once again I am honoured to be given the opportunity to be involved. I hope I can fly the flag high in 2013 for the Fujitsu 'Cool' karters by having another successful year. Once again thank you to all involved for putting the program in place and let's see if we can better last year's excellent results."

Bryce Fullwood - 14 (Northern Territory) "Thank you to Fujitsu and Velocity Management Group for this fantastic opportunity to be a part of this year's karting group. I'm really looking forward to the support, expertise and future opportunities in motorsports that will be shared with me to help further my career in karting and motorsport."

Nick Rowe - 14 (Western Australia) "I am really happy to again be picked for this great program. We had a stunning run in 2012 and once again it should be another great year of karting across Australia with the generous support of Fujitsu."

Pierce Lehane - 17 (New South Wales) "After a successful 2012 season, claiming two national titles with the backing from the Fujitsu 'Cool' Driver Program, I am pleased to continue in this great driver program again for the 2013 season, thanks again to Fujitsu for supporting karting and me personally."
