First NZ Titles Settled - Day 1 Report

DAY 1 REPORT

FIRST 2013 NZ SPRINT KART TITLE BATTLES RUN AND WON IN WELLINGTON

The first title battles have been run and won at this year's GoPro-backed KartSport New Zealand National Sprint Championships in Wellington today.

Christchurch driver Mathew Hamilton claimed the first Senior title at the 2013 championship meeting, beating teammate and defending class champion Daniel Bray and South Island champion Chris Cox to the line in the KZ2 class final.

In the two Junior classes contested, reigning North Island class champion Callum Hedge from the Bay of Plenty added the New Zealand Cadet title to his CV with a dominant performance over Jackson Rooney  from the Manawatu and Thomas Boniface from New Plymouth, while Caleb Cross from Rangiora swept all before him to win the New Zealand Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha title from Kaleb Ngatoa from the Manawatu and Reece Handl-Cox from Hamilton.

Action at the GoPro National Sprint Championships continues tomorrow and Sunday.
