Karting News Briefs

press release 24 May 2013

today's bits and pieces...

  • This 10 minute UK-based video asks the question "Are Costs Restricting Talent in Karting?". Well, no argument, yes to that. But, really, there's nothing new or startling about the question or the answer - this is motor sport, and motor sport costs money! It seems the sport is continually getting more expensive, but regardless of how cheap a category might be to run, there will always be someone who spends more than the next person to try and win. The trick is twofold - (1) find the level of racing you can afford, and (2) spend wisely (it really is amazing the talent some people have when it comes to wasting cash...).

  • Spaghetti track? Nope. It's the US-Air Motorsports Raceway circuit in Shawano, Wisconsin, USA. This is, apparently, one of the most challenging tracks in North America. SKUSA's Midwest ProKart Challenge returns to the venue for the third round of their series on June 1-2. It's got multiple circuit options (including oval), various rental tracks, dirt track, fully paved pit and paddock... nice.

  • George Gutierrez enjoyed a race win overseas last month. The South Australian had been holidaying to see family in Chile and ended up racing at a local kart circuit in a category using a PRD 125 engine on MG Yellow tyres. "We had half a day of testing before the race meeting" he wrote on Facebook. "It began with Carby session then straight in to Qualifying, followed by a Pre-Final and Final. Qualifying went well with a P1 result. This carried on throughout the day with a win in the Pre-final and Final. It was a pleasure to race in front of family and at my second home." Video of the Final is below:
