Wins Shared As Pro Tour Geelong Heats Up

press release 25 May 2013

The Jason Richards Memorial has brought with it some of the best racing seen across the Pro Tour season, with little separating the whole field across the six categories, with many drivers sharing the spoils, adding to the interest of the looming finals at Beckley Park International Raceway in Geelong.

True to his form from Pro Tour Newcastle, Adam Hunter took a clean sweep of victories in DD2 Masters after claiming pole position; a stunning drive from Hunter saw him drive away from a dicing field in the three 14 lap heat races. A determined Daniel Richert, who not only joined with the Exprit Racing team, but took on two categories for the weekend was able to secure second in all three events behind Hunter. Newcastle round winner Michael Robson returned with some strong form, challenging amongst the top three and taking third in all of the races, while Danny Wright took fourth across the three races. The final placing in the top five was shared across the events with Cameron Harch taking out the placing in race one and two, with Trevor Whitby crucially securing the spot in race three and cementing his place in the top five for the start of the pre-final.

The wins across the day in Rotax Heavy were shared between three, displaying the closeness of the racing in the fiercely fought out category. After starting on pole, Victorian Travis Kodric stormed to a first heat victory over Rick Pringle and Dylan Collett, from Daniel Richert and Shay Mayes. Kodric remained in the action for the remaining two races, finishing second in heat two behind Pringle, with Richert in third, Mayes in fourth and Troy Woolston in fifth. Dylan Collett returned from a DNF in heat two to take a hard fought out win in heat three from his team mate Kodric with V8 Ute regular Kris Walton in third, Matthew Greenbury in fourth and Michael Saller in fifth. Kodric will start the pre-final from pole position ahead of Pringle, Walton, Greenbury and Mayes.

A spread of wins across the Sodi Junior Max Trophy Class will add spice to the two finals for Sunday, though Stephanie Stones didn’t take a heat victory, she will start from pole position for the 20 lap pre-final. A pair of second’s and a third for Stones will see her start alongside Jack Black who stormed to a strong win in the final heat. A strong start from William Brown in the opening heat race had him on track for a good weekend, though 13th in the second heat impeded his initial charge to the top in the remaining races. Consistency proved key for Zane Goddard taking fifth and two third’s across the heat races, taking the Gold Coast driver to third for the start of the pre-final with fellow Queenslander Jordan McGregor starting from fourth and Trophy Class debutant Glen Ormerod from fifth.

A strong showing from Victorian Brad Jenner to take a string of second places was enough to setup the young gun to start from pole position for tomorrow’s pre-final, continuous dicing across the races with Andrew Carey saw Jenner come blisteringly close to victory. For Carey, a 23rd in the final heat impeded his run to a trio of victories, thus taking him to fifth for the start of the pre-finals. A win in the final heat to Daniel Rochford will allow him to make it an all Victorian front row alongside Jenner for the pre-final, with team mate Aaron Borg to start from third and Mitchell Hewitt from fourth ahead of Carey.

An intense three heat races in Junior Max required grit and determination to succeed, and Newcastle round winner James Abela was able to transfer his success to take two of the three heat wins, sharing the spoils with pole sitter Bryce Fullwood who was on debut in Junior Max after stepping up from the Trophy Class. Jordan Boys consistency across the day rewarded him, as he secured second for the start of tomorrows opening race alongside Abela, with Fullwood starting from third. Jake Klein recovered from 15th in the opening race to snare two second places in the final two heats to start from fourth with William Hawkes second place in the opening race helping his run to start from fifth.

Though he only scored fifth in the final race, a pair of wins for Jason Pringle to start the day has helped the Victorian secure pole position for the start of tomorrow’s pre-final. A dominant performance by Pringle helped his run to the position, starting from second in the races behind returning Queenslander Damian Ward, who will subsequently start from second tomorrow morning. A healthy win in the final heat race from Ward has delivered him confidence for the two races ahead. Adam Lindstrom showed a strong performance in all races to start from third for tomorrow’s race ahead of reigning National champion Lucas Ward and Thomas MacDonald.
