Hindle Awaits 'The Call' At Geelong This Weekend

press release 12 June 2013

After a five-year hiatus, local driver Aaron Hindle (Lara, Victoria) returned to the kart circuit earlier this year with immediate success in the Victorian Karting Series, now he’s in the race of his life.

And only half this race has to do with karting.

As Hindle suits up to battle for the Victorian Championship in the TaG 125 Heavy category at this weekend’s round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE in Geelong, his wife Stacey is due to give birth to the couple’s first child on Friday.

“It’s going to be a nervous week, that’s for sure,” said Hindle.

“I’m definitely racing and will be at the track race until I get ‘the’ phone call. After all, the baby might not be born for another week yet – who knows. I’m just praying that it’s not Sunday when I’m sitting on pole position for the final.”

The fact that the pair met through the sport of karting is something that Hindle says will assist him in racing this weekend as they await their life changing experience with their first child.

“Being an ex-karter herself, Stacey is pretty understanding. She knows how much racing means to me and the fact that I really want to do well at this event on my home track,” added Hindle.

Hindle’s karting career began as a youngster in the Rookies category before moving through the ranks into the Junior National and then the Senior ranks before financial burdens put the brakes on his flourishing career.

Now, five years later after completing his apprenticeship as a Boilermaker Hindle made a comeback to the track thanks to the support of Geelong Extreme Karts proprietor Dominic Albanese.

“Ever since I stopped racing five years ago I’d always had a burning desire to get back into it but never had the cash to do it. Now I’ve got a secure job and also the support of Dominic I’ve been able to get back on track,” said Hindle.

“My first race back I won four races from four starts, and have been up near the front in every other event.”

After testing his skills against the best drivers from all across the country at the previous round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series in South Australia, Hindle is confident of finishing on the podium on his home track this weekend.

“I really enjoyed racing in the Stars of Karting Series, if I didn’t have a mechanical failure in the pre-final which led me not to finish the pre-final I was confident that I would have finished on the podium,” said Hindle.

“The disappointment of Adelaide has made me hungrier for success this weekend where I think local knowledge, both in terms of the track and the weather, will come into play.”

Hindle will be one of 147 drivers lining up on the grid across the seven categories being contested at this weekend’s third round of Australia’s elite championship.

Drivers from as young as nine will be in action in the Rookies category, along with newcomers to the sport will be in action in the TaG Restricted class through to the top-level drivers in the three Pro categories – Pro Gearbox (KZ2), Pro Light (KF) and Pro Junior (KFJ).

Practice for the event will be held on Friday ahead of qualifying and the heat races on Saturday. The finals will be contested on Sunday. Admission is free for spectators.

The Geelong Kart Club is located on Broderick Road, Corio.
