SEQLD J-Max Series, Round 3

from Rick Fabri and Geoff Salmon 12 June 2013

Another great turn out of Jmax competitors, 21 in all, for round 3 of the SEQLD Jmax Series, held at Ipswich Kart Club on the 8th June 2013.

The word is certainly getting around with juniors moving from Junior National to Jmax such as Jordan Kidas racing for the first time in the SEQLD Jmax Series. I have also been approached by other kart clubs asking if I would like to run a series round at their track next year. This is thanks to all the Jmax Teams, well done!

Again racing was excellent, fast and close with some first-class battles among the field. Unfortunately a first corner incident in the pre final left a few karts with bent side pods and steering rods, fortunately no driver was hurt in the incident and all involved kept on racing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank IKD, Pacific Kartsports and Geoff Salmon from SportsVoice for their continuing support of the series and the great prizes they put on offer, Mark Wicks from KartSportNews for advertising the series and Ross Duffy from Apex photos for coming to the track on Saturday and taking a heap of photos. Photos can be found at www.apexphoto.com.au

I would also like to thank Ipswich Kart Club and the AKA officials for their tireless work and support of the Jmax series, without them we would definitely not have been racing. The biggest thanks goes to all the Jmax teams that participated, 21 racing drivers lining up on the grid was a fantastic result.

Congratulations to the winners of round 3 (full results on CMS HERE):

1st – Nicholas Andrews (Kart - Exprit)
2nd – Daniel Milne (Kart - CRG)
3rd – Aaron Seton (Kart - Exprit)

Please find below results of round 3 and the series points score, plus Geoff Salmon race report and photos.

I would just like to remind everyone that our sponsors do provide great prizes which are given out at the presentation, but you have to attend the presentation to win. We only seem to get the same teams show up at the presentation, it’s great for them because they win all the prizes that are on offer, it is also a sign of respect to the podium winners that worked hard to get on the podium and our sponsors that support the series so much. I know that it’s a long day, but please stay for the presentation, it’s really worth your while. It would also help if the podium winners can attend the presentation in their race suits, this will show professionalism of the drivers and the series. I know I would much rather have a photograph taken in my race suit on the podium instead of shorts and thongs.

As all ways, if you have any suggestions especially for the presentation, please contact me either by phone or email. Once again thanks to all who came and supported round 3. I will see you all at round 4, 10th & 11th August 2013, at the Warwick Kart Club.

Thanks
Rick Fabri

Inaugural 2013 SEQ JMAX Titles Round 3, Ipswich Kart Club 8th June 2013

The fifth round of the Ipswich Kart Club Championship along with the third round of the SEQ JMAX Titles got under way with the possibility of wet weather, 195 competitors arrived with spanner men and families following to make this days racing one indeed to remember.

JMax was represented with a field of 21 drivers all looking forward to a great day of competition; an additional young lady taking to the field along with Sheridan Vroegop (#8) was Natasha Herne (#29), this was absolutely fabulous seeing two young ladies doing battle against the young men.

The JMAX where the eighth class to come onto the track for qualifying, and just immediately prior to this session we received a light downfall of precipitation, which gave Rick Fabri, the Coordinator of the Series the job to inform all 21 of the competitors that they had the option of running dry or wet tyres if they wished.

The precipitation did not cause any problems to the field and disappeared for the remainder of the day/night meeting. The average attendance for the class over three rounds a very healthy 19.6 competitors, Rick Fabri was delighted with the figures.

Having qualified in the back half of the field, Daniel Milne enjoyed strong races and took 2nd in the final

Qualifying

Nicholas Andrews (#17) was very quick and posted the fasted time a 50.009 on his sixth lap to secure the pole, beside him William Brown (#31) recording a time of 50.013 on lap seven; P3 went to a slim Lachlan McHugh (#23) with 50.120; P4 to Aaron Seton (#2) 50.196 on lap four; next came Mitch Maddren (#92) with a 50.233 on lap six; then Russell Whittaker (#87) clocking 50.379 on lap three; with Blake Brooks (#18) next with a 50.397 on his third lap also; next Michael Fabri (#14) with a respectable 50.419 on lap four; next Jack Smith (#43) a 50.453 on lap six; with Brock Lannoy (#5) making up the top ten with a 50.582 in lap five. A gap of just .573 of a second covering the first ten, we certainly were looking forward to a great heat of racing to come, over 12 laps.

The Heat

Lachlan McHugh (#23) showed his determination to be taken seriously by leading the first lap from Nicholas Andrews (#17); Nicholas Andrews (#17) capturing the lead on the second lap only to have it snatched back on the third lap again by Lachlan McHugh (#23); who held the lead for the next three laps; before again Nicholas Andrews (#17) looked to take control of the heat; meanwhile starting from a position of fifth on the first two laps; Aaron Seton (#2) moved forward past Russell Whittaker (#87) into third position; Mitch Maddren (#92) back as far as seventh on lap three, was to move past Mitch Griffin (#83) and Daniel Milne (#77) up into fifth on lap four; Nicholas Andrews (#17) went on to win the heat, second after a tussle with Lachlan McHugh (#23) that lasted for five laps was Aaron Seton (#2); third Lachlan McHugh (#23) fourth to Mitch Maddren (#92) finally securing the position on lap eighth; after another great dice throughout the middle section of the heat over Russell Whittaker (#87) who finished in fifth; sixth going to William Brown (#31) after dropping back as far as eighth on lap six, before moving forward to improve his finishing position. The fastest recorded time by Nicholas Andrews (#17) a 49.726 on lap eleven of twelve; the first nine drivers recording a lap better than 50 seconds.

The Prefinal

The prefinal over a distance of 15 laps (15.3 kilometres) was to see Nicholas Andrews (#17) do what he does best and lead from the onset through until the final lap; William Brown (#31) who was second fastest in qualifying, but only able to secure a sixth place in the heat, came out strong in the prefinal and moved through the field passing Mitch Maddren (#92) for fifth on lap three, then up to fourth before moving into third past Lachlan McHugh (#23) on lap eight; another pass this time on Aaron Seton (#2) on lap ten to move to second and go on to hold the position till the finish of the race; meanwhile Mitch Maddren (#92) fifth on the first lap then back to sixth on lap three; holding that position for two laps before passing Daniel Milne (#77) on lap four and finally getting past Lachlan McHugh (#23) on lap eleven to secure third; fourth to Lachlan McHugh (#23) obviously enjoying his new lease on racing to finish in the top five for the final; Daniel Milne the winner of the Hard Charger Award won the month previously finishing in fifth followed by Aaron Seton(#2) who after starting on the second row of the grid was finally able to secure a sixth position, which I am sure was not to his liking. The fastest time recorded by Nicholas Andrews (#17) a 49.783 on lap fourteen; for the prefinal the first six drivers able to record a time less than 50 seconds.

The Final (Final only counts)

The final got under way with a flurry of activity Lachlan McHugh (#23) getting away to lead the first two laps from Nicholas Andrews (#17); third early Aaron Seton (#2) from Mitch Maddren (#92) sitting in fourth place after the first lap; fifth was William Brown (#31); Nicholas Andrews (#17) took control of the final on the third lap and was not headed for the remaining laps to go on for a very convincing win, Daniel Milne drove particularly well from sixth on the first lap into fourth on lap five for twelve of the remaining laps before moving to third on lap sixteen; he went on to pass Lachlan McHugh (#23) who faded back to finish fourth on the final lap being passed by Aaron Seton (#2) up into third; fourth going to Lachlan McHugh (#23); fifth William Brown (#31) sixth Mitch Maddren (#92); seventh to Russell Whittaker (#87); eighth to Mitch Griffin (#83); ninth going to Brock Lannoy (#5) and the top ten finisher Blake Brooks (#18); the fastest recorded time in the final to Nicholas Andrews 49.825 on lap sixteen.

The Hard Charger Award of $100+ a Commemorative Cap presented by Geoff Salmon from Sportsvoice going to Michael Fabri (#14) after a hard day’s work in the office.

Another great round of racing for the 2013 SEQ JMAX Titles, to all our sponsors a big thank you, Dale Verrall from Pacific Kart Sports, Ian Black from International Karting Distributors and Geoff Salmon from Sportsvoice. I would like to thank all the drivers that have supported all rounds of the series so far, Raymond Jenkinson (#19), Blake Brooks (#18), Brock Lannoy (#5), James Litzow (#58), Jack Smith (#43), Jack Ah Quay (#81) and Sheridan Vroegop (#8). Without your support it would and could not be the successful Series that it is. Keep up the good work.

The SEQ JMAX Titles will meet again for the fourth round of the SEQ JMAX Titles at Warwick Kart Club over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of August 2013 to be run in conjunction with the Queensland Junior Top Guns.
