IKD press release

‘Pro Tour breaking new ground in 2014’

With the end of the 2013 Rotax rankings season at the end of this weekend, attention is now directed towards the 2014 season, with new changes, new tracks and new formats set to revolutionise even further Australia’s most successful and rewarding Karting series.

The pre-final races, seen taking part on the Sunday morning of the Pro Tour events will feature points for the first time in the series. They will be allocated using a formula of 75% of the total points available from a final. This will then attract competitor’s series’ being calculated as their best 12 results from 16 events. Further, the pre-final races will be extended to approximately 18km to coincide with the new points system.

From the Albury event in October, Rotax Heavy will not form part of the World Finals seat allocation, instead the winner will receive a Senior Max or DD2 engine at the completion of the season. In addition, the winner will also receive $500 cash and will have the option to gamble that at the next event, with back to back wins scoring them a $2,000 cash prize.

The Sodi Junior Max Trophy Class will return in the new season, with the winner being offered the choice of a free Junior Max or Senior Max engine, with the new incentive being delivered on the back of exceptional interest in the category which made its debut in Canberra in October 2012.

State pride will be on the line in the Rotax Pro Tour starting from Albury as points will be recorded for drivers in line with the Manufacturers Cup format for the prize known as the State of Origin shield. As the healthy New Zealand presence continues to grow, they will hold their own place in the new initiative, with winners being announced at the 2014 Rotax Nationals.

After the success of the inaugural day/night Pro Tour event at Queensland’s Ipswich facility, the track will play host to next year’s Rotax Nationals in the same Friday/Saturday layout. Finals will be run under lights on Saturday evening, with the presentations to occur in a gala breakfast in Ipswich on Sunday morning.
