Marcus Dumesny (Nelson, NSW) added to the list of achievements in dirt track racing by his famous Speedway family during the 2013 Australian Speedway Kart Titles, sponsored by Aussie Forklift Repairs in Nepean, Sydney today.

Marcus, son of three-time Australian Sprintcar Champion Max, was victorious in the Junior National Light category ahead of Daniel Sayre.

Dumesny slotted into second place behind Sayre as the field roared into turn one of the 20-lap final, only to see Sayre run wide in turn two allowing the third generation racer into the lead.

Throughout the opening half of the race Sayre pressured Dumesny for the race lead before the pair ran side-by-side entering turn four on lap 17. Despite his best efforts, Sayre was forced to settle for second behind Dumesny as Jake Donaldson claimed third place.

“It’s just an amazing feeling to win this title. I really have to thank my brother Mitchell for all of his help and advice this weekend,” said Dumesny.

“Entering the final he told me that if I got in front I just had to keep a tight line and it would be very hard for the guys behind me to pass because the track really only had one fast line.

“I knew Daniel (Sayre) was right there but I didn’t know the other guys were right behind him as well. Yesterday I probably didn’t take as much advice as what I should have from Mitchell but today I did and it really paid off. So I can’t thank him enough.”

After tasting victory on the bitumen in the 2013 Rotax Nationals last weekend, Michael Saller today successfully defended his Clubman Heavy crown. The Windsor Downs driver was dominant on his way to victory in the final, crossing the line well clear of Daniel Selmes in the 20-lap main event.

Donald Stevens (St Clair, NSW) was the only driver to claim a pair of victories across the weekend with two dominant performances in the KT Modified Light and KT Modified Heavy categories.

After trying for a number of years to claim his first national crown, Stevens was elated to secure two wins at the Nepean venue on Sunday.

“I’ve never really been close to a title win before because for one reason or another by the time the final has come around I’d always had some sort of drama. So to get two wins in the one day just feels amazing,” said Stevens.

“I really have to thank Jon Targett from JT Motorsport for his work on my engines. They were just superb all weekend long. Also to my wife Louise and my family for all of their support, along with my Father-in-law Ray and everyone who has helped me get these titles.

“Entering the weekend I really didn’t know how I’d go in the (KT) Lights and had said if I was any lower than sixth after the heats I’d pull out and concentrate on the (KT) Heavy’s. Last night we spent a number of hours in the shed preparing the kart and all of that hard work paid off today.”

Jaie Robson (Oatley, NSW) is a renowned front-runner in the bitumen form of karting but relatively a rookie when it comes to the dirt track. However, this didn’t deter him entering Speedway karting’s biggest event of the year, and he walked away from the weekend being crowned the Champion in the Clubman Light category.

After being under pressure early in the 20-lap final, Robson had to also contend with a pair of restarts, which allowed his rivals to bridge any advantage that he held, throughout the race. In the end though, Robson crossed the line several kart lengths clear of Jason Woodward.

Luke Geering (Catherine Field, NSW) claimed a flag to flag victory in the Rookies category to claim a popular victory ahead of defending champion Andrew Sayre. In the Clubman Over 40s ranks, Wayne Baines (Lalor Park, NSW) was pressured early by Gary Morris before driving off into the distance for victory.
