Kart racers from all across Western Australia will be calling Esperance home this weekend as they chase glory in the Cliffs Natural Resources Western Australian State Championships.

With more than 200 entries being received across 14 categories for the prestigious event, there will be drivers from as young as seven in the Cadets category through to the more experienced in life in the Clubman Over 40s category in action.

With 19 entries, the Cadets and Junior National Heavy categories are the two largest fields. Among the Cadets entry list is also a pair of interstate drivers, Benito Montalbano from Sydney and Jordyn Sinni from Melbourne.

In the action-packed Leopard Light class there will be 17 drivers who will face the starter, including five-time Australian Champion Kip Foster who will be joined on the grid by his son Scott in the battle for victory. Expected to join the pair in a battle near the front of the field is the likes of reigning champion Nathan Davis from Geraldton and Perth hotshots Adam Garnaut, Brendan Shugg, Patrick Martin, Jesse Elliott and Adam Levi.

At the corresponding event held last year in Bunbury, it was Denmark’s Keb Evans who was victorious in the Cadets category; now he will be up against the drivers in the next age bracket in the Rookies category.

The most spectacular category being contested at the event will be the Open Class where the impressive 200cc twin-engine karts will line up alongside the 125cc Gearbox and single-engine karts. It is the mixture of high-horsepowered machinery that will create some exciting racing around the 655-metre Esperance circuit.
