The Whitsunday Titles

The 2013 Whitsunday Titles were run at the Mackay Kart Club's Keilbach Park Raceway last weekend. Local Mackay drivers took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd in five of the classes over the weekend.

Tag Restricted @ 170kg was one of the classes that provided some exiting and close racing with Andrew Vella (one of Mackay club's big meeting specialists) just managing to hold off a fast finishing Marshall Watson (returning to the track after more than 18 months out of karts), with Robert Penfold holding on for 3rd.

An unfortunate incident early on in the final ended Steve Muscat’s hopes in spectacular fashion when he and Shane Worbey came together. Steve was in contention with a number of 2nds in the earlier heats, but ended his day with an ambulance ride to hospital to have a broken arm seen to.

Junior National Light was another of the hotly contested classes. Declan Fraser had shown a clean pair of heals during the heats, but in the final ended up with fourth. Townsville drivers Zacchary Pattel and Luke Grasso came home 1st and 2nd with Mackay driver Jordan McGregor finishing in 3rd.

The Mackay Club committee thanked all the officials who helped keep the meeting running smoothly and the drivers who travelled to the event. Hopefully we will see them all back again next year with more of their racing friends!
