Race Report – Warwick Club Round – 10th November 2013

After a 2 month break, a very good number of competitors assembled for the November 10th Club Round at Sandy Creek Raceway. Word is getting around regarding the great atmosphere and good racing that everyone enjoys at Warwick and quite a few new faces made the trip up from Brisbane. After a big storm on Saturday evening and a weather prediction for more storms throughout Sunday, racing was conducted over 2 Heats, a Pre Final and a Final under sometimes threatening clouds but generally a pretty warm day.

Cadets

Oscar Comley was in great form winning all 4 races and was really only challenged in the 2nd Heat by Jett Johnson who led for 5 laps before Comley assumed the lead. Johnson was consistent with 4 x 2nd placing’s as was Thomas Cooper with 4 x 3rd placing’s. Bradley Thorne is starting to progress very well and finished 4th in each race ahead of tiny little Jessi Comley in his very first race meeting who did a great job throughout the day.

Rookies

Samuel Poulsen and Danial Murrell were the class of the Rookies field and had some terrific racing all day with great respect being shown to each other. Poulsen ended up crossing the line 1st in all 4 races but Murrell led him on occasions and made him work real hard. Max Wilcox and Marcos Innes shared the spoils for the minor placing’s throughout the day, Wilcox getting the upper hand in the final and grabbing 3rd place on the podium with Innes 4th.

Junior National Light

Jake Wheeler, Jake McRae, Zak Hudson, Ryan Jordan and Ben Wilcox shared the placing’s around during the day. McRae started strong winning the 1st Heat from Wilcox and Jordan. Wheeler narrowly beat home McRae and Jordan in Heat 2. Hudson was very strong in the Pre Final for a great win from Wheeler and Wilcox. Hudson, Wilcox, Wheeler and McRae had a terrific battle in the Final until Wilcox and Hudson collided on the last corner of the last lap whilst fighting for 1st place, Wilcox failing to finish and Hudson losing a lot of time. Wheeler and McRae cruised on by to finish 1st and 2nd and also secure 1st and 2nd overall on the day. Hudson recovered for 3rd and also secured the final podium place. Jordan and Wilcox finishing the day 4th and 5th.

J Max and Junior National Heavy

Sebastian Blindell had an easy time as the only J-Max, whilst Rhys Astley, Alexander Uzzell and Jack Breeding battled for JNH honours. Astley started off badly with a DNF in Heat 1, but then dominated the rest of the day with 3 x 1st placing’s. Uzell won Heat 1, got a pair of 2nd placing’s in Heat 2 and the Pre Final and then a 3rd in the Final to finish 2nd overall and on the podium. Breeding did very well with a couple of 2nd placing’s and a couple of 3rd placing’s to finish 3rd on the podium.

Qld Sportsman Light

Shane Roberts continued his good form at Warwick with a dominant display leading all but the first two laps of Heat 1 to score 4 x 1st placing’s. Luke Thomas followed him home in 2nd on each occasion, whilst the minor placing’s were shared around between Peter Nuske, Robert Mortensen and Zack Wilson, Wilson in only his 2nd race meeting up from Juniors being the more consistent and ending up 3rd on the podium.

Tag 125 Light

Lachlan Palmer as the only Tag 125 Light got to do solo demonstration laps all day and naturally enough took home the 1st place trophy.

Qld Sportsman Heavy

Anthony Knight for the 2nd meeting in a row was able to come home with the 1st place trophy after a brilliant display of driving in the large 18 kart field. Wins in the 1st Heat and the Pre Final and a strong drive to 3rd from 12th starting spot in Heat 2 left Knight on pole for the Final and he was able to drive away to another very convincing win. Anthony Grant had a good day with 4th in Heat 1 and then 2nd placing’s in the remaining 3 races to finish 2nd overall, ahead of Dale Robinson 3rd overall after results of 2nd, 7th, 3rd and 3rd in the Final. Mark Keilar started off slowly with 9th in the 1st Heat after getting stuck in the pack, but had a great win in the 2nd Heat, followed by 5th in the Pre Final and 4th in the Final to finish 4th overall. Nicholas Hobbs was very consistent with 5th, 4th, 4th and 6th to finish 5th overall.

The final race meeting at Sandy Creek Raceway for 2013 will be on Saturday the 14th of December and may feature some “special” events with unique formats to be determined.
