Townsville Karter's Make A Wish Fundraiser

  29 November 2013

Four months ago, Townsville karter Luke Flynn decided he wanted to put something back into karting. He contacted the Make a Wish Foundation, asking what he could do to help out, and if any of the kids had a wish that involved karting.

The Foundation replied that they always need money to make the wishes come true, so Luke decided to organise a charity auction to raise money.

"Townsville Kart Club supplied the venue and a committee of our friends decided to get in and help him" Brian Flynn said.

"Most of his spare time was dedicated to securing prizes and items that could be auctioned on the night to raise the money. All the food, table and chairs were donated. the stage 'Truck' was also donated by one of the families. He did this off his own back as well as racing interstate and local meetings throughout the year."

160 guests attended the night with the auction raising just over $6200.

"Luke was auctioned off for $240 and will now provide driver training for one of the families. I was also auctioned off and went for $310, which will give more training to another family" Brian added.

While alcohol sales and door money took the total to about $9300, it was still not enough - so the 20 year old decided he would allow someone to wax his legs for cash to reach the $10k goal!

With a little help from a couple of mates, the traget was reached and a cheque was presented to the Make A Wish Foundation on Saturday.
