Comet Racing Engines win TaG Senior at SuperNats

press release 2 December 2013

It's been a great season for Comet Racing Engines with multiple WKA Manufacturers Cup and USPKS national wins and championships this year as well as standing on the top step at the 2013 Robopong 200 but the season wouldn't be complete without a trip to Las Vegas for the SKUSA Super Nationals.

Despite cold temperatures and steady rain most of the weekend, Dave Sera on an Arrow X3 with Comet Leopard emerged from the three qualifying heats with three wins to start the TaG Senior final on pole.

Hot on his heels was KartSport North America teammate and NASCAR driver AJ Allmendinger on an FA Kart and Comet Leopard starting second. Sera would get away cleanly into the lead but AJ was in the middle of a hard battle. Unfortunately on track contact forced AJ to retire before halfway.

In the mean time Nicholas Rowe was on the move from his 10th starting spot also on an Arrow X3 and Comet Leopard. As the battle heated up for the lead for Sera, Rowe took advantage of the back and forth to close on the lead pack. With Sera fighting for the lead Rowe took the opportunity to slip past both Sera and second place for the race lead. With the battle still fierce for second Rowe managed to pull out a one second advantage which was enough to hang on for the TaG Senior win and Sera would take second place to sweep the top two steps of the podium for Arrow, KartSport and Comet Racing Engines!

Florida driver Dustin Stross started 39th out of the 40 karts in the TaG Senior final and raced his way to 8th by the checkered flag on his Tony Kart. Arrow driver Ben Stewart was 10th at the line but was penalized 5 spots after the race.

Indycar star Will Power had a heat race win along with two podium finishes which was enough to start on the outside of the front row for the TaG Masters final. As soon as the green flag waved the racing for the lead was extremely hard with Power getting pushed off line and falling down to 6th. Will made multiple passes and was on the move to the lead when contact put him into the barriers and ended his day. Will had the speed on his Arrow X3 with Comet Leopard but just didn't have the luck.

Other strong runs at the SuperNats included Luis Leeds in Leopard Junior with an 8th on his Arrow X3 and Comet Leopard. The Top Kart USA duo of Zach Holden and David Malukas both made the Leopard Junior final in their first SuperNats Leopard Junior appearance with Comet Leopards as both drivers move up from the Sportsman ranks.
