  • For 2014, Formula One drivers have chosen the race number they wish to use and will carry that number in F1 for the rest of their career. Several have chosen numbers that have karting significance, including our own Daniel Ricciardo who will carry number 3 on his Red Bull. "(The) Reason for #3 is it was my first ever number in karting and I was also a fan of Dale Earnhardt" he tweeted. Similarly, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel (who chose 5, but will carry #1 this year as he's the current World Champion) and Fernando Alonso have all chosen numbers from their days in karting.

  • First race at Bolivar for the year - Australia Day Classic, the day prior to Australia Day.


  • WSK Promotion, known for the various WSK karting series in Europe, has moved in to car racing. The Italian company wil be the promoter of the fist national series for the FIA's new Formula 4 category. WSK Promotion will look after the Italian ACI Csai Formula 4 Championship. WSK will continue to promote various karting championships.

  • The Cooper's have re-launched their Cooper's Photography website for 2014. Check out the new-look, which includes various photo galleries, at www.coopersphotography.com.au.

  • Entries for Pro Tour Melbourne close this Wednesday! Visit www.rotax.com.au to enter.

  • The 'J' Big Day will run at Lithgow on February 23. No Yamaha KT100J classes will run during Saturday's Big Birthday Bash racing on the 22nd. However, Sunday's event is carrying the tags "30 years old and still going strong" and "Use it or lose it" and will be exclusively for 'J-powered machines. There will be various weights for senior and junior National classes, including a Hot Rod Js division. The CDKC runs the annual Ladies Special National Event on January 25-26.   • A karting Trade Show will be part of the Vintage Kart Prix meeting at Ipswich on March 21 to 23. In addition to all the vintage karting activities, there will be displays of cars, motorcycles and hot rods. The display area will run around the outside of the opening series of corners of the Willowbank kart track (see below). Karting Industry trade sites are now available for booking: 1 bay, 3mx5m = $100. 2 bay, 6mx5m = $300. 3 bay, 9mx5m = $350. The fee includes overnight security. "We expect a sizeable crowd to attend the event" organisers have stated of the three day affair. "Among the audience coming to this event will be a large number of young people who are very interested in motorsport. Their exposure to the modern racing kart and the sport of karting represents a considerable source of new karters."
