Walton Wins The Brian Farley Memorial

from Ana Agathos 7 February 2014

Queenslander Kris Walton has taken out the 2014 Brian Farley Memorial at Eastern Creek in dramatic fashion when eventual race winner Bryce Davidson was disqualified for a technical infringement.

Having started the twenty lap final in pole position, Davidson pulled away and set a blistering pace. Davidson lead from start to finish but was later told the win could not stand (due to no transponder - MW).

Walton had a great battle all race long with fellow Queenslander Jason Burns. Burns was looking after his kart in the early stages holding off the battle for first; however when he made the move on Walton on lap twelve, he couldn’t pull away. Walton got back underneath at Grandstand corner before the two then went wheel to wheel for the remainder of the race. Burns tried a last minute lunge at the last corner on the final lap but it wasn’t enough as Walton went on to take the win. It was sweet redemption for Walton as last year he had the race taken from him when he crossed the line first but without a front nose cone.

Victorian William Hawkes stepped in for the injured Jaie Robson and did a remarkable job taking home a comfortable third. Dimitri Agathos was the first New South Welshman home in fourth with Joshua Smith completing the top five.

Matthew Waters was one of the biggest movers in the race. Whilst leading the Pre-Final, Waters suffered a mechanical failure and subsequently did not finish. Waters drove from thirty third in the final to sixth where he also broke the lap record.

Seven other classes took part in the Brian Farley Memorial. The Cadets produced one of the best races throughout the weekend. Seven karts were vying for the race lead when Russell Mayo went from third to first on the final lap to take the win. William Seal drove brilliantly all weekend and came home second with Queenslander Declan Matthews completing the podium.

TaG Pro saw a great battle between Gordan Wilson and Lydon Dodge. Wilson came from as low as seventh on the opening lap to take a narrow two tenths of a second win. Dodge was second while Joshua Smith completed the podium making a Queensland two and three.

After stepping up into the Junior ranks for 2014, Cody Brewczynski dominated the Junior National Pro class all weekend. It wasn’t so easy for him in the final though as Zac Raddatz was behind him for the entire race. Raddatz hit the lead during the middle stages but didn’t have enough to hold Brewczynski off as he went on to claim victory. Jack Winter completed the top three.

Jeffrey Rahaley won a side by side finish against Matthew Waters in the Senior National Pro final. Rahaley held his nerve in the final stages as attacks continued to come from Waters. Waters didn’t have enough and had to settle for second. Matthew Pritchard was third only half a second of the winner.

Rookies put on a stellar race as four drivers fought for the race win. Benito Montalbano won the race after being passed numerous times for the race lead. He played it smart and slotted himself back to second when he needed to knowing that he had the kart speed. Cody Burcher held on for second from a fast finishing Reece Cohen.

Kyle Sandona dominated the TaG Restricted Pro final. He led all of the eighteen lap final. Michael Couani worked his way around Paul Monaghan in the early stages to take second while Monaghan held on for third.

In Junior Clubman, Drew Ridge took the race win from Harrison Morabito and Kyle Angel.

Round one of the North Shore Kart Club championship takes place on March 2.
