Preview: Vic Country Series, Round 1

press release 7 February 2014

The first round of the 2014 Austrans Victorian Country Series gets underway on Sunday the 16th of February. Drivers and pit crew are expected to flock to the South West Kart Club in an effort to get a good haul of series points to help ensure they are in contention by the time the final round reaches Ballarat on the 18th/19th of October.

There were many fabulous trophies and prizes handed out at the end of the 2013 series with this year looking to be even more rewarding for drivers.

Once again the series will be running a Saturday practice and race Sunday format as it used last year. This seems more popular as there is no rush to get to the circuit on Saturday whilst still being able to confirm your entry on Sunday morning for those with a busy Saturday.

Early entry prize draws will once again be run for those drivers who enter by Wednesday prior to the meeting.

Some of the local drivers that will be looking to grab a big haul of points on home soil will be the 2013 Victorian Karter Of The Year and current Victorian Closed State Title holder, Kyle Rethus. The form that Rethus has showed over the past 12 months suggests that he will certainly be the bench mark in Clubman Light and TAG 125 Light.

The brother and sister duo of Mitchell and Jaymi Mackay are also looking to bank a good bag of points on their home circuit. Mitchell is in good form after narrowly missing the win in Junior Clubman at the Victorian Closed Titles. Jaymi also recently put in a great performance at ‘The National Breast Cancer Ladies Only Race Meeting’ where she took out the 125 Restricted Class securing herself yet another pink number plate.

Karter’s are reminded that South West is also the home of the 2014 Victorian Closed Titles. With the weather conditions possibly similar to that of what the Title will be, the Country Series would be a good opportunity to get some solid racing and testing done.

The supp regs for the series can be found at www.vka.asn.au and you can also follow the series on facebook at Victorian Country Series. You can also contact Ingrid Baxter on 0438 292 667 or email ingrid.baxter@bigpond.com
