Karting News Briefs

  13 February 2014

  • Karting icon Remo Luciani underwent surgery yesterday for the removal of a tumour. "Whilst the operation itself was successful, Remo will subsequently require a few weeks to recover" his wife Sabrina wrote on Facebook. "We whole-heartedly appreciate your support and understanding at this time and will keep you all updated with his progress." We're sure all the karters and their families will be wishing Remo all the best for a full and uncomplicated recovery.

  • Pierce Lehane's 2014 European campaign starts this weekend with the Rotax Winter Cup in Spain. Live video is planned to be shown across the weekend on www.rgmmcmedia.com. Live will be HERE.

  • Former National champion and World #2 Rotax pilot Scott Auld has joined Matt Greenbury's G-Force Karting operation. They have both been involved in karting for over 20 years, but these days you see the boys dressed in mechanics outfits more often than race suits! G-Force has been a long-time Tony Kart dealer and also stock and support Monaco karts. Thanks to Birel Kartsport, Auld has brought Birel to the G-Force camp. The organisation also recently added Formula K. Greenbury has been operating G-Force for three years and in addition to karting equipment, specialise in driver training and trackside mechanic service.

  • Here are the links to some more CIK-related karting articles that are published by the CIK-FIA itself:
    • Gordon Finlayson, engine builder. Through his GFR tuning business, where he specialises in TM KF engines, he's worked with a number of the top drivers in 2013. He reckons the quality and reliability of the current KF-spec engine is fine. Read it HERE
    • A couple of days ago it was Jos, now it's Max's turn. Max Verstappen had an excellent season in 2013, winning two European and a world title, all while he was still 15. He speaks of his season, and switching between KF and KZ throughout the year. Unfortunately, he's now done with karting. Read it HERE.

  • KartSport New Zealand has released a raft of rule changes for 2014. The changes include sporting, personnel and technical updates - such as carburettor rules for Vortex Kiwi Mini Rok, compulsory sticker that must be carried above a race number, mixed class racing and tweaking of the "claimer" rules for engines and parts in controlled components classes. The PDF can be downloaded from KSNZ HERE.

  • The 2014 versions of the international sporting and technical regulations, and the recent approvals by the CIK-FIA, are now online. They can be found under the Sporting Regulations section of the CIKFIA site HERE.
