Triple Crown Series - Leg 1

from Dave Sturgeon 9 April 2014

Well, this year’s Triple Crown Series has gotten off to a great start. Leg one at the Townsville track was run and won on Saturday 5th April. There were 60 odd drivers signed up and competing for series points and another 30 odd drivers from around the state at the event.

Competition was fierce in some of the classes, making for a great spectacle for all the onlookers. The day started out with a couple of heavy showers, making for an interesting start to racing.

The Cadets had to deal with a wet track for heat one, young Riley LeGarde making it home first despite the slippery conditions. He went on to finish the meeting in 1st place followed home by Jayson Eves 2nd and Renyn Eisel in 3rd.

Open Performance Light/Heavy  provided some spectacular tyre sliding coming off canteen corner at the top of the hill. Townsville driver Mitchell Naylor was always in the fight and in the final managed to finish on the top step. Second in the final was Luke Flynn and 3rd Justin Garioch. Tony Spencer raced in Open Performance Heavy and had a wretched time in the heats with damage to his kart, but made amends in the final with the win, Leo Rodriguez finished 2nd. Unfortunately Doug Penningh and Richard Vella failed to finish the final.

This weekend (12/13th April) will see drivers compete in the Mackay and Proserpine race meetings, to find out the series crown winners. Hopefully the weather will be kind and best of luck to all the drivers competing.

One of the lucky competitors will go home with a brand new Deadly Kart chassis, with thanks to DPE for their support.
