Gold Cup To Light Up Bordertown

by Phil Michell 9 April 2014

This Saturday night (April 12) will see the running of one of the biggest Dirt Kart races of the South Australian season with the opening round of the100cc Gold Cup at the Tatiara Dirt Kart Club at Bordertown. The prestigious event has attracted a star studded line up with a full field of 20 competitors set to do battle under lights at one of the fastest tracks in the state.

The Gold Cup is promoted by talented racer and kart constructor Ben Brown and the event follows a format that is quite unique in the karting world which includes time trials, two rounds of heats, an A-Dash, a B-Main and a winner takes all A-Main which is always exciting for the competitors and fans alike.

The 100cc Dirt Kart category is one of the most exciting divisions in Dirt Kart racing and the class has produced a number of current day Speedway stars and they are often referred to as the“Speedcars of Dirt Kart Racing” due to the fact they are light, powerful and extremely nimble.

Unfortunately current race champion Mark Burfordwill not be competing but last year’s runner-up Brad Connor, son of former Speedway racer Tony Connor, will be among the favourites along with current Formula 500 standout and two times Gold Cup Champion Lisa Walker.

“This is the 5th year of the Gold Cup and it is the first time that we have run the event over two rounds. This year’s overall winner will receive a brand new 125cc engine valued at $3000 plus we have an additional $2000 of cash and prizes to be won” added event promoter Ben Brown.

Round 2 of the Gold Cup will be at the Angas Go Kart Club (Strathalbyn) on August 10.
