Another great kart meeting was put on for Tasmanian karters last Saturday the 24th of May at the Briant Park Kartway in Smithton. As always the small band of dedicated volunteers of the Circular Head Kart Club made all karters feel welcomed and appreciated for attending their kart meeting.

The feature class for the day was TAG Restricted Light and Heavy. Heat race action in the lights saw Ben Kay, Jordan Smith and Jairus Holmes share the wins, however the final was all Holmes who won in a dominated display from Keenan Slater and Craig Phillips. In the Heavy division we again saw three different winners with Jeremy Green, Cory Brown and James Fitch greeting the chequered flag first. In the final young Launceston Kart Club member James Fitch simply drove away from the field to win his maiden senior race meeting by over 6 seconds, second was Cory Brown followed by Brodey Lovett.

The second part to the feature class was the Inaugural Grant McGlasson Memorial race held over 20 laps at the pro weight of 170kg. This time Jordan Smith won after a race long battle with Jairus Holmes.

Open Performance was also on the programme with a classy field of 12 drivers lining up with a mixture of KZ shifter karts and Super 200 Twins. Zane Wyatt driving a twin air cooled Rotax dominated the meeting winning heat 1, the pre-final and final. Steven Wrigley aboard his Praga Twin TM again was the bride’s maid as he has now finished second in the last 3 meeting all too different drivers. Third in the final was another Twin TM of Jake Rice.
Ethan Wyllie convincingly won the cadet final from a couple of new drivers who have just started out on their karting careers in Fletcher Bellars (2nd) and Jake Delphin (3rd).

Junior National Light saw a great battle all day between Mitchell Kerrison and Jackson Callow. With Kerrison taking the final from Callow and Kurtis Love.

Junior National Heavy was won by Justin Murphy who took out 3 of the 4 races on offer, 2nd in the final was Johnah Slarter with Lachlan Cruse in 3rd.

Senior National had an influx of 0ver 40s drivers who wanted a bit more racing on the day, running both over 40s and Senior National. In the end the young gun of Thomas Stewart held out Ben Davey for the win, with local Regan Townsend rounding out the podium.

Over 40s pro final was a great race with the top three crossing the line within 0.692 of a second. Wayne Fisher taking the win from Ben Davey and Stephen Johnstone.

The Final class on offer for the meeting was Over 40s Super Heavy, and again the man that has dominated this class for over the last 3 years, Scott Wrigley, showed why he has the coveted Blue Plate. Taking second in the final was Darren Williams ahead of close mate Greg Woods.

The next meeting on the Tasmanian Calendar is the Legends meeting to be held at the North Western Kart Club on Sunday June 15th.
