Celebration Day Success for Donaldson & Sayre

For the first time in season 2014, the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club enjoyed a full day of racing at Nepean Raceway. Finally the weather was on the clubs side, but it wasn’t without a few drops earlier on in the day.

Round five of the Club Championship, the Celebration Day, saw Seniors paired with Juniors. The pair who accumulated the most points throughout the day would be awarded the Celebration Day trophy.

That went to Daniel Sayre and Jake Donaldson.

Sayre won his opening heat race before finishing second in the remaining two. He then drove from the last row, around the outside of the pack, and won the feature race in KT Combined. Donaldson won one heat race before finishing second in all his remaining races. He too came from the back to second in his final race. The consistent results for the pair of them was enough for them to secure the Celebration Day award.

James Angilley claimed his second round win in a row for the NSWSKC when he was the highest point scorer for the Cadets. James won one heat race before finishing second, fourth and second in his remaining races. Young peddler Sophie Coghlan won heats two and three while Brayden Shute claimed the feature race win for the Cadets, winning by almost a second. Shute was also second highest on points as Luke Angilley made it an Angilley double on the podium when he was third.

After making the big step up into the Rookies ranks for 2014, Connor Moreau secured his first round win for the class on Sunday. His win in the feature helped him secure the round win. Zak Blanch pressure Moreau for the majority of the feature race, but Moreau held his nerve out in front. Blanch was second for the round on points followed by Jack Selmes. Blanch, Moreau and Liam Walker all shared the wins during heat races.

The ever competitive Clubman Light class was dominated by Jake Baines. Baines won the day on points and also won the feature race. Baines charged from the back by passing cars on the topside of the track and hit the lead by lap 3 of 12. He pulled away for a comfortable win ahead of Josh Heath. Lady racer Alana Onley once again had a brilliant day ending up second on points. Peter King won the opening heat and sealed third overall for the day.

It was a battle between Daniel Sayre and Katelyn Hickey for the round honors in KT combined. Sayre won the opening heat before Hickey won heats two and three. Sayre, as mentioned at the beginning, won the feature after coming from the back. Hickey finished second in the feature race, so by virtue of Sayre’s feature race win, Sayre claimed the overall round win. Hickey, who was also very strong at Kurri, was second for the round while Ashleigh Jack made returned to the podium with a third place.

Joel Robertson clean swept the Clubman Heavy class. He was dominant in all four of his races. Nathan Camilleri tried to challenge him throughout the feature, but Robertson was too strong. The “Fox” Leslie Green was in the hunt all day and was second overall followed by Camilleri. Sportsman 125 class was also racing with the Clubman Heavy Class. Tim Baker and Ben Morgan took part. The two of them were swapping spots and throwing slidejobs at almost every turn. It was thrilling to watch. Morgan won the opening heat before Baker claimed the remaining races.

As mentioned before, Jake Donaldson won the round for the Juniors. Not only did Donaldson claim the highest points in his class, but also for the entire club. He was therefore handed the prestigious Scott Darley Achievement of Excellence award.

Luke Sayre won heats two and three before Marcus Dumesny won the feature race in a thrilling fight. Luke Sayre was second for the day followed by young hard charger Kyle Mock.
