  • Supplementary Regulations for the 2014 Dunlop South Australian Open Sprint Kart Championships are now available HERE. Pit allocation form HERE. The event takes place at the Monarto Karting Complex on August 22-24. Note, it will run in clockwise direction on the 1040m 'A' track configuration.

  • Video wrap of the Warwick Rotax Pro Tour round on the weekend:

  • Ringwood Kart Centre is now stocking Wolfchester products, including brake cleaner, carby cleaner, pressure spray bottles and much more. High quality products from a local company at great prices - www.ringwoodkartcentre.com.au

  • A gallery of photos from the Come-And-Try day at the Wagga & District Kart Racing Club on Sunday is now on Facebook. Click HERE (40+ photos).

  • MotoGP ace Jorge Lorenzo goes "Karting with Friends" in this promo clip by Yamaha:

  • The date for the Victorian Karting Association's 2014 presentation night has changed. It will now be held on Saturday December 13, not Sunday the 14th as initially scheduled.

  • Jett Johnson, the nine-year-old grandson of Dick Johnson, took a clean sweep of the four races at the Bundaberg round of the Central Queensland series at the weekend. More on Johnson's flourishing karting career on speedcafe HERE.

  • The "standing start" procedure used by the UK Super One series has been published for other clubs to use for their standing starts if they so wish. Interestingly, when Rotax MAX and IAME X30 powered karts arrive on the grid awaiting the start, they have to turn their motor off! Pull-start motors like the Comer are allowed to stay running. The PDF is HERE.

  • The Cooloola 7-Hour endurance race at Gympie next month is the third round of Sportsman Enduro Karting's inaugural  series. "It is estimated that a minimum of 15 teams will be contesting this event" SEK advised. The group conducts races that are a minimum of 6 hours long, involving teams of at least two drivers. "With stint times of up to an hour, two to three times a race, all drivers complete many laps of each track... excellent bang for the buck racing with lots of seat time."

  • Thanks to karting1.co.uk for spotting this on YouTube - a flag marshal getting hit by a Cadet racer. And no wonder; there were flaggies all over the damn track! No word on when or where this was, nor info on any injuries. Hopefully all were ok.

  • Xen de Ruwe has switched teams. Again. The rapid Belgian has just joined Intrepid as part of the official Intrepid Driver Program. He will pilot a Raptor Intrepid at KZ2 Super Cup KZ2 at Sarno in October.

  • Due to the recent theft at Lenzo Kart Australia, it has been decided to shut the Booragoon store down until further notice. "This does not mean Lenzo Kart will not be around and are closing forever, it just means we need time to restock and rebuild" they wrote on Facebook. The organisation will continue to take online orders that can be picked up or delivered.

  • Meanwhile in France, the Action Karting shop in Lyon was virtually destroyed by fire in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. The showroom, offices, thousands of parts, new & used karts plus customer chassis and engines were damaged or destroyed. The family run business is now transferring to another building. Apparently, it had already been a victim of crime (molotov cocktail) in the past.

  • Sun Centre Titles coming up at Swan Hill (home of the 'dome) next month:

  • Strawberry Racing in the UK has denied alleged rumours regarding team drivers using "special" chassis. "We would like to set the record straight once and for all. All our team drivers use exactly the same karts as we sell to the public. There are NO modifications made to team karts and they do not differ in any way to any Tony Kart that we sell" the team said in a statement. Of course, "in the interest of fair play", Strawberry offer any kart for sale straight off the track after a race.

  • Karters from Mackay, Proserpine and Townsville kart clubs spent a day with David Sera at the Proserpine track recently. Drivers lining up for the Queensland State Championships next month were very appreciative of the time and information that Dave was able to provide. Adam Stroud (Proserpine Kart Club President) said he would use the information to hopefully be at the front of the Clubman Over 40 class at the States' and invited Dave back any time he was able.

  • Interesting old clip of a Sodi Kart crash test with their rental kart fitted with seat belt. The velocity of the test was not specified, but we're guessing it wasn't high!

  • Former Aussie karter Jake Parson won the opening round of the Asia Cup at the Sepang circuit last weekend. The meeting was run over four races and Jake led every lap! The podium was filled by Michael Waldherr (Germany), Plu Komarakui (Singapore) and Daniel Woodroof (Malaysia). “To win my first international FIA event was great, but to win every race and lead from start to finish was the perfect way to start our championship campaign" Jake said.

  • Update from the FIA Sport Conference: World Motor Sport Council delegates will be tasked with designing new proposals for motor sport development grants on Thursday. Hopefully this will open the door for karting to play a more significant role in general motor sport.

Launching FIA Sport Conference 2014, FIA President Jean Todt yesterday told delegates that motor sport “can no longer exist in a vacuum and content ourselves with playing our historic role as the regulator of motor sport” and that it must adapt “to a new reality, which is sporting, economic and social in nature”.

Welcoming representatives from 109 ASNs to the headquarters of ADAC in Munich, the President said motor sport faces increased competition from rival championships, a new challenge in the shape of rapidly growing social media, continuing economic difficulties and the need for motor sport to embrace a new era of social responsibility as demands for safety and environmental awareness grow.

He said that this is being done systematically in the FIA’s championships but added that more work needs to be done to “make motor sport simpler and safer” and to “integrate technical progress” into the federation’s sporting activities.

“It is upon these three bases that we will be able to construct an ambitious development policy for ASNs, similar to what is being done by other international sporting federations,” he said.

He concluded by saying the key to this development would be the careful allocation of the funding made available by the F1 Concorde Agreement and funds from the 100-year rights issue of F1 that are now available.

Expanding on the same theme, FIA Deputy President for Sport Graham Stoker added that a new grant aid programme will be rolled out in the coming days and that delegates would be tasked, in a series of workshops, with defining new proposals for motor sport development that he hopes to present to the World Motor Sport Council on Thursday.

  • More FIA news... the organisation has just signed an agreement with the creators of the highly-acclaimed Gran Turismo series, Polyphony Digital Inc. (PDI). According to PDI, Gran Turismo 6 will become the first-ever video game to feature FIA-certified content. FIA & PDI plan to launch an official FIA Online Championship in 2015. Read more HERE.
