West Australian karter Tayla Dicker has been selected as the 2014/2015 recipient of the "Women of Australian Motor Sport" Junior Development Scholarship.

The Women of Australian Motor Sport committee today announce that West Australian karter Tayla Dicker has been selected as the 2014/2015 recipient of the WAMS Junior Development Scholarship, supported by CAMS.
The 16-year-old two-time state champion is currently competing in Junior Max and Leopard Light and recently won Round 2 of the Western Cup Junior Max this year.
With the goal of making race driving a full-time career in the future via the formula classes, Tayla is excited about the learning experiences ahead thanks to the scholarship.
“I really want to learn heaps to help me further my career in all aspects, so I can become the best professional driver I can be,” said Tayla Dicker.
“I’ve always had my eye on making it to the top level of open wheeler motorsport (F3) in Australia, which would then help me progress to drive in open wheelers overseas. I’ve looked up to Leanne Tander a lot while I’ve been learning my racing because I think she is one of the best female drivers in Australia, and having driven in multiple disciplines shows how good she is and what you can achieve with hard work.
“I applied last year for the WAMS scholarship but wasn’t successful so I’ve worked on my results since, so it’s awesome to now be recognised this year. I’m really excited about all the opportunities that it will bring me.”

WAMS Chair Belinda Taylor said that the high calibre of applicants this year proved that the future of women in motor sport is bright.
“This year surpassed any other with so many outstanding applicants for the WAMS Junior Development Scholarship,” said Belinda Taylor.
“All of the young women who applied were clearly ambitious and passionate about their future goals and dreams in motor sport. Their applications demonstrated a willingness to learn, work hard and develop their skills and knowledge both on and off the track to be the best they can.
“WAMS is proud to provide this scholarship as an opportunity to support young women in the early part of their motor sport journey. We wish Tayla and all the applicants’ for that matter ongoing success in their racing, and as excellent role models for women in motor sport.”
This is the third year in which WAMS has awarded the Junior Development Scholarship, with off road racer Kristy Hedley the first recipient in 2012/13, followed by open-wheel racer Caitlin Wood last year.
