Sunny Coffs Brings Out The Best At Pro Tour

New Zealand’s Daniel Kinsman has featured amongst a string of success stories throughout the opening day of Pro Tour in Coffs Harbour, with a line-up of new faces joining the regular pacesetters at the front of the fields here at the series’ first visit to the Coffs circuit.

DD2 Masters

Karting World’s Adam Hunter was able to secure pole position in the DD2 Masters qualifying session, starting his day of success with a 42.875 in the sole eight minute session. Hunter was joined on the front row by fellow Sydneysider Lee Adams who was only 0.1 seconds behind Hunter aboard his CRG. On his return, Danny Wright secured third in the session ahead of Tony Bregonje, while Scott Howard and Hamish Leighton would start from the third row.

Adam Hunter remained unbeatable throughout the day’s races, taking advantage of strong starts to develop a comfortable lead, taking the win on all three occasions. Lee Adams matched Hunter with his consistency, finishing second in all races with the pair set to meet again on the front row in the pre-final. Hamish Leighton’s three top six finishes will see him start from third in the 20 lap event with Danny Wright set to start from fourth after being hampered by a 12th place finish in heat one. Klinton Hancey and Tony Bregonje helped to ensure it will be a Tony Kart lockout of the third row with the pair to start fifth and sixth respectively.

Junior Max Trophy Class

On the back of his round successes throughout the year, Glen Ormerod took pole position in the Sodi Junior Max Trophy Class with a 44.629, while West Australian Brooke Redden would start second with Queensland’s Jye Hopkins from third and Karting World supported driver Chris Bregonje in fourth. New South Wales pairing Mathew Geering and Anthony Wiskich secured fifth and sixth respectively.

Two race victories and a second in heat two ensured Glen Ormerod’s pole start for the pre-final, setting himself up for another strong finals day in the Junior Max Trophy Class. Chris Bregonje’s second heat victory in combination with his third and fourth results will see him share the front row with his Karting World team mate, with Brooke Redden and Jye Hopkins starting from third and fourth after the pair finished each race inside the top four. Mathew Geering and Anthony Wiskich’s consistency will see them start from fifth and sixth, unchanged from the heat races.

Rotax Light

New Zealand’s Daniel Kinsman proved the man to beat through the Rotax Light qualifying session taking pole position with a 42.901 aboard his Praga kart, just 0.02 seconds ahead of Nicholas Andrews in just his second meeting in the senior category. Brad Jenner made it two RK Kart’s inside the top three by qualifying third with Brenton Mountjoy taking fourth. On his return to the Pro Tour, Aussie Racing Car regular James Abela qualified fifth with Jordan Boys in sixth.

Daniel Kinsman continued his strong form from qualifying in the opening two heat races taking the win in both, though a DNF in the third heat will now see the Kiwi start sixth. Nicholas Andrews’ third heat race win along with his second and third has the Queenslander on pole ahead of Brenton Mountjoy starting from second, capitalising on two second places throughout the day. Consistency from Jordan Boys and Ryan Kennedy has the two teenagers starting from third and fourth, with Andrew Carey to join Kinsman on the third row after he battled to finish inside the top six in two of the three races.

Junior Max

Sydney’s Jayden Ojeda proved to continue his season’s successful run, taking pole position in his Exprit Junior Max kart with a 42.938, less than 0.6 ahead of Redspeed driver Isaac Vaccarella. Darwin’s Bryce Fullwood took third with only 0.02 seconds separating him and Vaccarella. After his podium result in Warwick, Victorian Aaron Cameron managed to qualify fourth with Birel’s Mitchell Maddren in fifth and Gold Coast driver Callum Walker in sixth.

A clean sweep of the three heat races will see Jayden Ojeda start pole in the pre-final of Junior Max after securing his successes in the split grid system. Isaac Vaccarella’s two heat race wins in his group along with second behind Ojeda in the third heat has him starting on the front row alongside his fellow Sydney driver. Bryce Fullwood reflected his season’s pace in the day’s races as he took the win in his group’s third heat along with second in the first two races. He will start third alongside Aaron Cameron who secured a trio of second place finishes. Mitchell Maddren’s strong heat race form aboard his Birel Junior Rotax Kart will have him sharing the third row with New Zealand’s Dylan Drysdale in just his second appearance in the Pro Tour.

DD2

Birel Kartsport Australia’s James Macken was the quickest of a competitive DD2 field in qualifying, taking pole with a 42.549, only 0.01 seconds ahead of Victorian Troy Woolston sharing the front row with Macken for the three heat races. On debut in DD2, Jaxon Evans secured third making it two Birel Kart’s inside the top three with CRG Australia’s Mason Barbera qualifying fourth. New Zealand’s Josh Drysdale showed good form in the session to take fifth in his first outing in the gearbox class with current second place sitter in the series standings, Jordan Boys taking sixth.

A pair of heat race victories for Troy Woolston in addition to second in heat two has the experienced Praga driver set to start on pole position in the DD2 pre-final, while Bundaberg’s Mason Barbera will make his first appearance on the front row at the Pro Tour starting second alongside Woolston following his two third place finishes and a second in the three races. After starting pole, James Macken managed a second and first in the opening two races before a DNF in the third event put the Birel driver back to third alongside Albury’s Jordan Boys. On the back of his return to the podium in Warwick, Adam Lindstrom will start fifth with Josh Drysdale starting from sixth on debut in the category.
