Kristian Janev competed in the very 1st ROK Festival in Australia over the weekend and took on the ROK GP Light class.
Janev has had a brilliant start to his senior career since making the move in April including a City of Melbourne Title win and many other excellent results. Kristian had a tough field of drivers to contend with and was looking to battle with some of the country’s best!
Janev hit the track for Saturday morning qualifying and was looking to get as far up the field as possible. Kristian quickly made his way into the top 5 drivers and was able to settle in 4th position on the grid for race 1.
Janev started his racing weekend in nice fashion by moving into the top 3 on the opening lap of the race and was able to come home with a top 3 finish. Kristian moved into the top 2 in race 2 before he was shuffled back to the edge of the top 5. Janev regrouped and was able to work his way back up to 3rd position overall which had him off the all-important front row for the feature on Saturday.
Kristian didn’t get the start he wanted to in the final, dropping to as low as 4th position but wasn’t ready to give up. Janev made the move for 3rd spot and was pushing hard in the back end of the race to try and make his way into the top 2. Kristian was able to make the move and cross the line in 2nd position but a post-race penalty gave him the win in the Saturday feature!

The rain had arrived overnight and Kristian was having to qualify in trickey conditions! Janev gave it everything he could to get as far up the grid as possible, but set the 5th fastest time which had him off the inside of the 3rd row of the grid for the 4th race.
Back on the dry track for race 4 Kristian had a tough start dropping down to position 6 and now had the eyes on to move forward. Janev was able to work his way back inside the top 5 and crossed the line in 4th position in an improved performance. Kristian put in another nice showing moving his way into the top 3 in 3rd place in race 5, which had him off 3rd position for feature race on Sunday.
Janev had a hard race across the 20-lap feature where he became involved in a 3-way battle for 3rd position with championship implications on the line. Kristian put in another solid performance crossing the line in 5th position overall. Janev’s result were enough for him to grab 3rd place overall in the ROK GP Light class.
Kristian’s father David spoke post weekend on their weekend of racing. “It was something quite different this weekend racing in the ROK GP class for the 1st time. It was great to grab the feature win on Saturday and to grab 3rd overall behind Brad and Zach who have both won national championships is a great result”.
Janev will continue his season of racing in 2022 focusing on the TAG 125 and X30 classes.
