Double-Header at Warwick

from Kev ‘The Noise’ Davies

Auskarts ran round five of the SE Queensland Series and round four of its Endurance Championship at Warwick Kart Club on the weekend, a cracker race meeting with 150+ entries.

About 100 competed in the sprint race format SEQ event on Saturday followed by a further 50 drivers competing in the endurance races on Sunday. One of those 50 was ‘The Noise’, competing with Team Rowdy Racers – “what a blast that was!”

But first, Saturday’s sprint races yet again had some incredibly close racing in just about every class, so much so that it doesn’t seem fair to pick any individuals out. But I have to first mention that racing at Warwick this weekend and then America next weekend is one hell of an opportunity for young Maxwell Padilha. We all wish young Max every success in his first international outing!

Senior Max, incredible racing. Senior medium, amazing racing. Senior light, unbelievable racing. Junior & Junior Light, fantastic racing. Cadets, brilliant racing. Performance Single Medium & indeed Heavy, again, fabulous racing with the added bonus of two very fast Unrestricted karts duelling it out up front. Senior Heavies, brilliant to watch. Everyone had to get a mention because it was literally that good!

On Sunday it was my turn to have some fun in a kart again, with the 2-hour enduro. Four pit stops required with one of them a compulsory fuel stop, so strategy was worked out early, then changed and then changed again!

With our newest recruit to the Hot Chips Racing & Rowdy Racers camp ready to hit the track, this week Rowdy Racers had the services of one very experienced Rudy Farkas! Sportingly named Ricky Bobby Farkas “because if ya not first, ya last” – but third place was fabulous for us. Every team & competitor once again showed the utmost sportsmanship & respect for other competitors and meant we saw great racing throughout the two hours for juniors & seniors alike.

Baja 1000 racer “Kev Nott” was in a kart having fun!
To make sure The Noise was kept above the minimum weight, Phil McCracklin in the canteen dished up monster dinners
Driver Of The Day for round 5, as voted by the QMSO officials, Austin Burrell.
