Gold Coast's Scott McLaughlin, Britek Motorsport's youngest scholarship member, will kick-off his 2008 karting program when he hits the track at Victoria's Oakleigh circuit tonight (January 18).

scott mclaughlin britek14-year-old McLaughlin, currently Britek's sole karting representative, won the '06 Tasmanian Junior Clubman State Title, finished 3rd in the Victorian Junior Clubman State Title and won the City of Melbourne Junior Clubman Title for the second consecutive year - the only driver ever to do so.  His main competition program for 2008 will include the following events:

  • Junior Top Gun Series - January 18 & 25
  • Victorian State Titles - February 7-9
  • Australian Titles - March 21-23
  • Queensland State Titles - July 4-6
  • City of Melbourne Titles - August 17-18
  • Rotax Nationals - September 4-7
  • New South Wales State Titles - October 3-5

The Britek Motorsport Scholarship is a new initiative designed to provide aspiring youngsters with a career staircase to be conducted under the watchful eye of V8 Supercar star Jason Bright. Bright is confident the program will bring results.

"The four Formula Ford guys we have running with Minda Motorsport in the National Formula Ford Championship and young Scotty McLaughlin in karts will do us proud," said Bright.

"I'm sure and each of them have their feet well and truly on the ground.

"I can't wait to get out and see Scott take on his competitors on a track I know well. I'm sure he will be very competitive from the outset and he has a very mature head on his shoulders despite being just 14."
