V8 Mum To Race Karts For Good Cause

AKA press release

Throughout the past few years Dean Canto has been competing in the V8 Supercar Championship while his Mother has watched anxiously on the sidelines.

At the Ladies Only Race day, to be held at the Lithgow Kart Raceway on January 27, the role will be reversed when Anna Canto takes to the circuit and it is all for a good cause – the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The inaugural All Female event, which was believed to be the first of its kind in Australia, last January assisted to raise over $10,000 for the cause – this year event organisers are aiming to increase this donation significantly.

Like many mothers of today’s V8 Supercar stars, Canto, has spent many years following her son’s career across the country. Ironically her Dean started his career in karting at the Lithgow circuit before moving into the Super Touring Championship and eventually V8 Supercars. Since making his debut aboard a V8 Supercar in 2000 he has won the V8 Development Series on two occasions.

“I’ve never actually raced a kart or racing car in my life so it’s going to be a very new experience for me,” said Anna.

“Karting is a sport which provided not only Dean but the entire family with a common interest as we were all involved in various ways.

“For many years I’ve watch from the sidelines while Dean has raced but never had any urge to go out there and race. However, being a part of this race meeting to help raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, which is such a great cause, is something I’m really looking forward to – even though I’ll be very nervous.”

The All Female event will be held at the Lithgow City Raceway on Sunday January 27 with races contested all throughout the day to create awareness of and raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Other events for the All Female event include the go-kart charity Queen Pageant along with the charity dinner and auction on Saturday January 26 at the Lithgow Workers Club.
